DIFT - Generation Three - Adventures with Chandler (pt. 1)
The tombs and adventures in World Adventures are probably my favorite thing to come from the sims 3 expansion packs. I was really looking forward to generation three. Sending Chandler around the world and into the depths of all the tombs has been a lot of fun.
Firstly of the children I've had in my sims 3 game, Chandler was probably the most suited for the set up for his generation.
“my parents always working, I was left alone. So I went on trips in my mind. When I grew old enough I went on real trips."
He continually autonomously used the costume chest and played make believe.
He loves to travel and to explore tombs, he's rolled up wishes to learn each of the destination 'skills' and when he's exploring he constantly rolls up wishes to do little things that will grant him aspiration points. When he gets tired he wants to sleep in a tomb, if he sets off a trap he wants to disarm one, if he hasn't found anything recently he'll roll a want to find coins or a relic.
About the only thing that has freaked either of us out was when this band of mummies all popped out at the same time. He ended up getting beaten up and cursed. After we got him cured by the Spinx Chandler took to carrying mummy snacks around so that they'd leave him alone.
It was worth getting him cursed once though, cause the de-cursing quest was really cool to do. You have to go to the Spinx and plead for entry and then unlock the entire tomb and meditate in the soul gem chamber.
I'm not quite finished with Chandler's adventures, the more difficult tombs take quite awhile to wander through and he still has a few more to do before he finishes his life time wish. He also needs to finish up the final level of photography in order to complete all objectives of the DIFT for his generation. Neither of those things should be too difficult to do, he's still got a few more days before he becomes an elder and so he has plenty of travel time left.
However I wanted to go ahead and post some for him so that I could rant about something and ask for assistance in picking my next heir.
See for every good awesome thing there is about World Adventures there's one HORRID HORRID thing that makes me seethe. When I came to the conclusion that Chandler was my only real heir possibility I was a bit disappointed, I really wanted a female heir so that she could have children with locals in each destination. I got over my disappointment and decided that I would still attempt to have kids in each local knowing that with a male it would be a bit more difficult.

It's not that he doesn't like women it's just that he's oblivious to romance. If a woman flirts with him his first response is to start talking about photography. If I get him started flirting and then sit back and watch what happens he'll go off and start playing guitar. He makes friends really easily he just doesn't make many of his own moves. And so I decided that if a female local started seriously pursuing him and they were at a decent relationship level I'd get him to talk her into bed and we'd see what happened.
At first I tried the whole invite the potential baby mamma to visit him at home, move her in have a kid and move her out bit. So we started with Sun Young Kim. I picked Sun Young because I knew from past experience that she was a flirty sim and very possibly would have a multiple loves LTW and therefore wouldn't really mind being 'used'.
So Sun Young got pregnant but every time Chandler tried to invite her to move in he'd reset and the game would get hung up. So I cheated to add her to the household. I figured out later that the reason he had so many problems was because she had gotten pregnant and married in China while I wasn't paying attention. Once I got her added to the household she was still showing as married though Chandler never had any option to ask her to break up with husband and her kid was a kid that she didn't even know.
In time Sun Young gave birth to twins, Mulan and Liang. She and Chandler then had a discussion and confessed their mutual 'cheating'(even though they weren't even going steady) got mad at each other and decided it would be best to be just friends. Sun Young moved out and left Chandler with two infants. She's now married and has a fourth child and shows up as the wife of both her first and current husbands. So glitches yay!
Much HATE for babysitters that don't do anything!
After that I decided not to attempt moving anyone else in, we'd just deal with getting the kids in the right house later. Potentially big mistake. What I didn't fully understand at that point was how idiotic the aging process is for children born in WA locales. Sims don't age on vacation, which is really good because like I've said some of the tombs can take over a sim week to clear. So far I haven't even really seen any locals that appear to age, all of the sim children that Chandler met on his first go around the world are still children. The problem is that if a local gets pregnant by a traveler, when the traveler goes home and looks at their family tree the baby is already born and is a child already. Okay I could deal with that, a sim has to be at least a child in order to make friends and be invited to visit their father's 'real' home. BUT...rather than stop there or age reasonably after that every time the traveler goes back to their home world no matter where they had been previously the child skips to the next age group. Sooo the ages of Chandler's kids are really messed up and I even cheated a few of them down in ages.
By the time Chandler got back to Egypt his daughter Rawan with Layla Lufti was already a teen. He was able to convince her rather large family as to the advantages for Rawan going to school in Bridgeport and once he'd made best friends with her she was added to his household.
Chandler had twin children in France with Paulette Fouchier and since they were still showing as children I thought well maybe if he didn't travel to France but invited Paulette to visit and move in she could bring the kids and they would still be kids.
While they were working out the details of that they slipped into the bedroom and I heard chimes gah!! Paulette's showing off her I just got nookie strut, she was pretty proud of her ability to manipulate me.
Chandler had rolled up a generic want to get married (I think all having three kids in the house made him want some help) so rather than have to deal with the potential age problems of yet another child he quickly asked Paulette to marry him. She accepted but once again when the move in screen showed the game reset Chandler and the twins didn't show up. Chandler made a quick trip to France in order to pick up his un-met children and we were both hugely surprised by the fact that they weren't children at all but Young Adults. Yeah, good going EA. The whole aging thing ticked me off so I popped the twins into CAS and aged them down to children, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I didn't do something that will blow up my game. But so far they seem to be fine and have aged to teen naturally.
Soooo here are all the children of Chandler that could potentially be heir/ess for generation four. Let me know if there is one that strikes you as the best. The important objectives for generation four are to top journalism and to master writing and painting. Any of the kids could do that sucessfully and most have LTW's to go along with the DIFT goals. All of the kids will still be given at least one more trait that will be molded towards heir potential if they are choosen for the job. I can also force an appropriate LTW but I would prefer to let a sim have one that best suits them.
Rawan Reynolds - Technically the oldest
Daughter of Layla Lufti from Egypt so she has the hidden Egyptian Cultural trait but all that means is that she uses Egyptian idles and can sing the two Egyptian songs. Rawan has red hair and light golden brown eyes.
Rawan is Clumsy / Genius / Artistic / Athletic - Currently she has both Master of the Arts (Painting + Guitar) and Illustrious Author (Writing + Painting) available for LTW.
Florence Reynolds - twin to Juliette
Florence and Juliette are the older daughters of Paulette Fouchier from France. They were aged from YA to child when they joined their parents in Bridgeport. Florence has Brown hair and dark brown eyes. Both have the hidden French Cultural trait which doesn't mean much at all.
Currently Florence is Workaholic / Couch Potato / Photographer's Eye / Cat Person - Currently has Professional Author available.
Juliette Reynolds - twin to Florence, daughter of Paulette (France)
Juliette has red hair and green eyes.
Juliette Loves the Outdoors / Bookworm / Coward / Cat Person (it amused me that both of the twins had the cat trait).
Currently she has Professional Author ($4000 per week royalties) and Illustrious Author (Writing + Painting) available for LTW.
Mulan Reynolds - Twin to Liang. These two should be the oldest but they are the youngest of the current teens due to the stupid aging thing.
Mulan and Liang are the only two of the older kids that have been completely raise by Chandler and they are the children of Sun Young Kim from China. Both have the hidden Chinese cultural trait which on top of idles and songs means that they eat with chipsticks.
Mulan has black hair and light brown eyes. She is Brave / Family-Oriented / Bookworm / Easily Impressed. She currently has Illustrious Author available to her as a LTW.
Liang Reynolds - Twin to Mulan
As the only male Liang is very outnumbered. He and his twin are the children of Sun Young Kim from China.
Liang has Good Sense of Humor / Eccentric / Friendly / Computer Whiz for traits and currently has Star News Anchor (Journalism) avaiable for LTW.
If I were to choose either Liang or Mulan I might double heir and do the optional marry the invisible friend generation at the same time since they both currently have invisible friends that have grown up with them. Note however that I really dislike the invisible friends and will gladly ignore that optional generation. I could also do the invisible friend generation at any point that there is one available since it is mostly accomplished before adulthood.
Madeline Reynolds - Very tempted to toss Madeline out due to age since she is so much younger than her siblings and won't even be a child by the time Rawan is a Young Adult. Madeline is the third daughter of Chandler and Paulette (France) and the only 'legitimate' child that Chandler has.
Madeline has brown hair and dark brown eyes and is currently Genius / Friendly. She does not yet have a writing LTW available but she doesn't have enough traits or skills to be considered formed enough to be near final.
