a hug and a kiss

There wasn't much they could have done different. In fact, doing things the same as before had gotten them into this situation. They had tried so hard not to let their feelings show and they had managed - well, even. And then there was a moment - a single moment in time that decided everything. He couldn't have said how he should have reacted, only that he would do it again. Seeing his partner bleed onto the concrete - it didn't matter how dangerous or shallow the wound was - made him react in the only way a lover would react to such a sight. A hug and a kiss; their relationship had started that way. There was no way he would let it end that way.

It had been easy to start a relationship without thinking about the consequences - at first. There had been a kiss, and all of a sudden it had been clear that this was it and there was no going back. A moment of choking silence, before the kiss had been repeated and their fate was sealed. A kiss that continued with arms around shoulders and urgent hands stroking through hair - needing to touch and feel and just be there on the other's body. They had kissed and embraced with an urgency they hadn't felt in any of their last relationships.

A kiss had led to more - to dates, if they could be called that. They hadn't stopped their lives to start one together, what a ridiculous notion that would have been. They sometimes played basketball together, sometimes they went out for dinner and ended up in a movie theater or swimming in a lake at the outskirts of the city. They went home together most of the time, and slowly but surely, the sex became an added benefit and no longer one of the reasons for their continued staying together. Sometimes, it was just good to have someone to go home with, someone to wake up with - and someone to laze around on the couch with on Sunday afternoons. And after a while, intimacy no longer meant urgent sex or kisses, but shopping together, or going running in the evenings.

It went well until that one last undercover assignment that ended up in Tony getting stabbed in the side. And maybe it would have gone well for longer, had he not seen him and reacted like a lover instead of an agent. It was just this once - when all the other times had gone well enough and he had kept his feelings to himself until they were home in the security of his house and hidden behind walls. No, he'd run and knelt down and drew Tony into his arms and kissed him on the temple like he'd felt he needed to.

And now he was standing there, in front of the closed silver double door and waited for his dressing down. Ziva was standing next to him, looking at her feet, probably wanting to say a thousand comforting things or to ask him questions - but she was quiet instead, uncomfortable. Gibbs could almost hear her say, "Time to fake the music, yes?" and Tony would take a moment to correct her before shooting him one of those smiles; only that Tony was in there and he was out here and couldn't do anything but hope the director was kind enough to do this without making too much noise.

Probably not the challenge response you hoped for, but Ziva fucking up yet another saying was just too sweet to pass up on. XD
Also, since I never have anything beta'd and English isn't my first language, I should probably mention that I'm welcoming any sort of criticism or pointing out of mistakes, yes? ♥
