What if I’m the only hero left? | Bass and Charlie, | Abandon | G | (AU set at the end of Chapter 1)

For whatever reason, it’s Monoe who decides to follow her when she leaves the group to get some air.

It’s not wholly unexpected if she’s honest. In the last ten months, at least one of boys has kept her in his sights.

…It’s that maybe she’d expected it to be Miles this time.

And just maybe this confirmed something she hadn’t wanted to think about.

"Don't," Charlie warns him, when he catches up. "Whatever you're going to say just...don't."

Monroe somehow manages to remain blissfully silent for almost three minutes. A new record.

"You know, it's not completely her fault, right?" he says, and Charlie's head snaps up.

He doesn’t seem at all surprised to see she’s angry. "Merely, stating a fact, kid. None of us are innocent."

"What you did..." Charlie stops walking, her words slow and deliberate, even as her hands curl into fists at her side.

"I can't even imagine what you put her through. Coz I've seen you go to work on the ( ... )

You get Charlie more than the writers of the comics do, I liked this little moment between them, Charlie venting and Monroe just being there for her. Team Charlie all the way.

Thanks, I was hoping to get something down that felt right. Otherwise my complaining seem very hypocritical.

(I miss when writing was easy. That pull to smoosh words together, undeniable and exciting. Now it's like crap, I don't have the skill to properly write the scene/s in my head...O_o but I'm going to try anyway?)

I like the idea of Monroe being someone who Charlie can be really blunt with, because he knows all the people who cause (/have caused) grief in her life intimately. Tom? One of his worst employees. Jason? Jason was a bumbling idealist. Miles? The things he could tell her about Miles...Rachel? Words can't even describe their relationship properly, and Charlie knows the feeling. Nora? When did she leave the Republic? What stories does Monroe know of her bounty hunter past?

I especially adore the idea of them banding together to stare Miles down when he says something stupid. Or amusing themselves by trying to get Miles laid so he'll stop being stop picking on them so much.

Say, 6mths post Riles break up... they just ( ... )

I do love your little story headcanons, love the idea of Miles being insufferable, so they make it their mission to get him laid, LOL.

now I want to see this happen in live tv-ness. Perfect moment. And you can so write, that sort of evocative doesn't happen by accident!

That's such a lovely thing to say, thank you :D

I can sort of write, but it feels like a battle... one I'm losing right up until it's posted. Also, I feel better if everyone has low expectations for me, because then I probably can't let them down. Which I know is a ridiculous coping mechanism, but it's mine.

Stop saying you can't write, because you obviously can and very well at that. :) I loved this moment, with Bass jsut letting her get it all out.

But it makes me feel better.

If I can't write then the fact that I did it anyway is practically an achievement of some kind. (Also I like to keep everyone's expectations low, and lower the chance of disappointment)

Anyway - thank you, every time I write now it's a struggle, so it's nice that it's not a pointless one. I'm glad you enjoyed it :D
