Which do I prefer--democracy or monarchy? Neither.
Majority rules in a democracy, and I don't mean the majority of the people. Those with money. Those well-positioned to power. Those people who, without a doubt, should not be running as much as a chicken-farm end up in charge of countries. And everyone else sits back and takes it, because they think their leaders were duly elected.
Monarchy isn't any better. It's all well and good to put all the power into the hands of the perfect man, but what do you do when the perfect man has a bellyache? Too often, the ruler forgets his responsibility to the people of his realm, preferring to concentrate on his own pleasure. Not all kings or queens, mind you, but the temptation is there.
No, what I want to see is a world without government. A world where there are no rules because people don't need them. Where every person is accorded the respect they deserve simply for being alive. Where we treat each other with dignity. Where wars don't start because we can see both sides of the argument and can compromise. Where no one goes hungry, or cold, or homeless. From each according to his means, to each according to his needs. Is it really that hard to do?
Love one another as I have loved you. That's all it takes. Love. Maybe a little patience.
Of course, people say I'm a dreamer.
