I am extremely appalled at what I saw on the news tonight. First, I have to say that I am in NO WAY shape or form defending any sort of issue...because I don't even know what I truly feel myself because the world is screwed up anyhow.
So I just happen to glance at the TV and see all of these people protesting. Well, they were anti-gay marriage protestors. Anyway, it was the Southern Baptist Convention or something. There were people holding up signs that said really terrible things!
An example being: GAY= Hell! Get salvation!
Then there was this preacher standing up and screaming and preaching. OKAY, I'M SORRY, but I do NOT agree with that. They're basically making christians look like fanatic religous freaks. It blows my mind. A sign saying that if you're gay, then you're going to hell, is hardly christian to me. I'd like to ask them if they are going to be protesting against divorce tomorrow and claiming people who have been are also damned to hell. Preserving the sancity of marriage surely is not divorce...and that's what they are protesting, right? Anyway, like I said, I'm not trying to defend either side, as to whether gay marriage's should be legal. I'm merely saying that I was sickened by what I saw on the news today. SICKENED.
With that being said, Passion of the Christ once again reminded me of how Jesus, above all, wants us to love one another...including our enemies. I'll be the first to admit I have a problem (ahem...starbucks customers). I know that the world will never "love each and everyone" because that's unrealistic, but it seems that if we tried to love more, and preach and protest RELIGION LESS, and what one should or should not be doing, then the world would be a better place. I wouldn't doubt that one of those protestors was divorced, or an alcoholic, or has even abused someone. I know I'm going kind of far into it....but people like to pin point certain issues, instead of their own, and then say people are going to hell for it. People in my own family are that way. My parents will protest, and boy-cott silly things until they are blue in the face, but they will never admit to themselves, or anyone else what goes on behind closed doors. To me, just because my parents are heterosexual does NOT mean they have a good marriage. Their marriage was HELL for us. I think we need to put less emphasis on some things...and more emphasis on others...if I'm being vague enough.
Anyhow, I didn't mean to go off on a tangent, but I did.
Night....
