Well things certainly are interesting around here these days. I'm taking a break from my last minute scholarship applications to just give you guys out there a lil update. Things are good, I cant really complain too much, just kind of busy. Classes are going ok, the only one I dont like is the one I thought I would be excited about. Astronamy should be so cool, learning about the stars and the nature of the universe and all that junk, but instead I get a first year teacher from albania who can barely speak english and is actually a physics major, but took this job because it was the only one available. The class isint hard, just unbearably boring, and I cant understand a word she says so I just sorta sit there and stare off into space. Mercifully she puts all the notes and test review on blackboard so it's pretty much impossible to fail, but man it is no fun at all.
The rest of my classes are great, I have absolutely no complaints about them.
Work is going cool, I love my boss, she is awesum and gives me more hours than I actually work, and the best part is I have no reported income from that job because it's work study so this next financial aid period should be fukkin awesum.
Speaking of money, I finally got my w-2 from the nav and I should be getting all of my tax money back soon. That along with my check from the navy from my retirement fund that I paid into, and hopefully this extra 600 bucks from the gvt. for "financial stimulus" and the financial aid i get this semester and g.i. bill I should be rolling in it and I can finally afford to move out of my parents house. YAY
My friend stefan and chuck wanna move in with me and thats cool, cuz it's cheaper for a 2 bedroom(chuck will be the couch guy, he has no money)than a one bedroom, and they are much nicer too. I found 2 great spots im going to have to take a look at this weekend, One is on Lake ella which is this beautiful lake near downtown, and the other is only 2 blocks from florida state, which means i can walk to class and I can walk back home from the bars and not have to worry about risking a dwi. Im a little overwhelmed by the whole househunting and lease signing thing, it was a whole lot easier to do this in japan, But if all goes according to plan by the end of feb at the latest i will be on my own.
I had to quit the sga this semester, their meetings go right through my classes so I just couldent make it, but it's ok, it's already on my resume haha.
my schedule this semester may not allow any time for sga, but it definatly freed up time for me to hang out with the college democrats and the international students more, and I would much rather hang with them anyways
Speaking of the iso, Mrs jensen invited me to attend the florida international leadership conference next weekend. I will be one of only 400 students in the entire state of florida to go. Im pretty honored. It's going to be in ocalla florida at some conference center and i have to wear a suit and tie and junk but it sounds like it will be fun too.
In other news, last week I started my volunteering with the early learning coalition of north florida. I go to the 3 r's day care center once a week and teach pre- kindergarden children how to read. It's pretty fun actually, I read them a story or two and then we do educational activities based around the stories. At first I was scared and didnt know how to handel the kids, the school is pretty ghetto on the bad side of town, but the people there showed me the ropes and it turns out to be alot of fun. I'm just a big kid at heart. Those kids are so excited to see me when I come in it really warms my heart. Hopefully the volunteering gig will help me get into the college of education at fsu, it is one of the most selective in the country so I need all the stuff I can get in my favor.
Well, thats about it from me guys, my fingers are cramping and I still gotta write an essa for these scholarships, peace all. i love ya
