We all get a little lonely, no matter how much company we have. It's all a part of life's deal.

I watched another 6 movies this week/weekend. I seem to watch movies in big batches and then none for ages.

25. The Cutting Edge 3: Chasing The Dream (25.03.10) 8/10
Yes, I watched the third movie before the first or second. I actually had no intention of watching the first or second at all - I only watched this one because I discovered that my two favourite skating professionals from Dancing on Ice were the skating stunt doubles in this movie. (Dancing on Ice post will come separately later, so that you can all skip it if you want to.) Now, judging this purely on if it was a good, well made movie (in the terms I was taught at uni), it would not get an 8. Nowhere near, in fact. And if I'd watched it in say, October, when my skating obsession was not so heightened, again, probably not an 8. However I absolutely loved it, I'm not ashamed to say. The routines were lovely (and I recognised some of the choreography from lifts that Fred and Mel always do in shows), the love story had chemistry and was believable, and (possibly most importantly) Matt Lanter is hot. So sue me - I loved this film!

26. D.E.B.S (27.03.10) 7/10
I started watching this on my day off last week and fell asleep after about 10 minutes. I was just tired, it wasn't because I didn't like it. I tried again yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it - it was like Josie and the Pussycats but with spies. Or something. The love story in that was great, and Jordana Brewster in particular was perfect in her role. I've been meaning to watch it for years, ever since I saw Clare Kramer in the short version, and I'm glad I finally followed up.

27. Alice in Wonderland (27.03.10) 7/10
I liked this more than I thought I was going to - I think the "eh" responses I'd read already had lowered my expectations. It was visually stunning, and made me laugh a lot. I didn't think it really needed to be in 3D though - if it had to be, there were a lot more moments where they could have made use of it. But overall, I enjoyed it. Plus we used our free tickets for the cinema so it cost us nothing instead of £9 each, and we took 3D glasses we already had so didn't have to pay the 50p to rent new ones.

28. The Cutting Edge (28.03.10) 5/10
Against my better judgement, I went back and watched the first film. I wished I hadn't bothered - it was okay, but only okay. I don't know if it's because I'd seen the third one first, but the big "dangerous" lift they do at the end had been used in the third one so didn't have the same impact that I think it was meant to. I didn't really buy the chemistry between the main couple, and the girl was really quite annoying (I think she's the mother in One Tree Hill now, which is where I've seen her face before). Part of the problem being she was horrible and bitchy, and then suddenly declared her love for the guy. This film was from 1992, so a full 16 years before the third in the trilogy was made, and I think it showed. Robin Cousins choreographed the routines, though, so at least the skating and lifts felt realistic.

29. The Cutting Edge 2: Going for the Gold (28.03.10) 7/10
I liked this one much more than the first one, but not as much as the third. It had a bit of a twist - both 1 and 3 featured pairs skaters forced to look for a new partner, whereas in 2, the main character was a singles skater forced to turn to pairs through injury. The skating was realistic and the story was nice - the only bit that was weird was the main character, Jackie, was meant to be the daughter of the couple from the first one. However they'd recast them both - which is fine and I can deal with that - but they didn't even seem like the same people. But I overlooked that, and enjoyed the film as its own thing. I won't be watching the fourth one, though, which was just released to DVD this year - because although it has Brendan Fehr, it has the same girl from #3 but without the guy. It cheapens their love story to know that they broke up as soon as he couldn't skate any more through injury! So as far as I'm concerned this franchise ends at #3.

30. Coraline (28.03.10) 6/10
I bought this for Mam's birthday and we just got around to watching it tonight. We both liked it, though wished we'd just gone ahead and watched the 2D version instead of the 3D - it made our heads hurt and didn't really use the 3D enough for it to be worth it. Cinema 3D officially trumps 3D in your own home, easily. Aside from that, I liked the story and enjoyed the film in general. It was the right length, too, and very nice to look at.
