Summary: Cassidy got an assignment from the Council.

Damp red locks and cotton clothing were sticking to her skin because of the muggy air that surrounded her. Cassidy stopped her difficult progression for a minute, and leaned on a tree next to her. The South Florida forest around her crackled with shivering leaves and animal life. She run her eyes over the green and brown background, sighing with dispair. How did a urban girl like her end up in such an uncivilized part of the country ?

Oh yeah, right. The Council.

The pompous group heading the wizard community in London was never short of crazy, exhausting assignments for its most subversive members. It wasn't official, off course ; Cassidy had merely been hired for a job because it was what she was doing, not because she was a pain in the ass for the Council. But she was sure they could have found someone more conveniant easily. At least, they paid well.

The assignment was simple : go to Florida (on the Council's account, off course, Cassidy was no new player), and get to know what a breakaway English wizard group settled there was up to.

Nothing complicated.

That's what she thought until she went out of the plane. Knowing that Florida was hot, and living it were totally different things. Having lived in London all her life, Cassidy had no idea it could be that hot. The first day of her stay had been a nightmare : trying to function like a normal person by this heat was the most wearying experience she ever lived. She managed to get to the hotel room she had booked, and, in the shelter of the air-conditionned space, she began investigating the wizard group.

Turned out they were up to no good.

Which, off course, meant they weren't keen on visits from official representatives.

And, like a she-James Bond with limited magical powers, Cassidy had to find a way to get insight from the community. Without her usual contacts, it took her forever to gather informations about them, but she eventually heard of a roundup in the tropical forest, and decided to go spy on them. She could now tell that she hated forests and secret reunions.

Having taken her breath back, Cassidy reached for the bottle of water she was carrying in her shoulderbag, and drank a copious gulft. The water was getting warm, she noticed with a frawn. She missed London cold rain so much, right now, it was almost ridiculous. Putting the bottle back in the bag, she wiped sweat off her forehead with her lower arm, and secured the bag on her shoulders. Pausing for a few more seconds to observe her surroundings, she then resumed her progression toward the gathering place. She couldn't really see it through the canopy, but she guessed the sun was still high in the sky, promising a few more hours of really hot and sticky atmosphere. She hoped the secret was big, so she could ask for a raise when she would be back in London. Just so it would have been worth it.

*****

Blue papaya. She had made her way through a compact forest and some nearly solid air for a plantation of blue papaya.

As she was looking down at the incriminated fruit, resting between her legs on the bedspread, Cassidy felt weariness and despair take over her. All of this for some stupid blue papaya.

Off course, using magic to obtain funky-colored fruit wasn't the wisest way to use powers. People could get suspicious and ask questions, threatening the entire community. Those wizards were going to have troubles, that was for sure. But still, blue papaya ?

Cassidy let herself go against her location bed. So much for her big discovery. There was no way she was getting more money for having exposed a blue papaya plantation. Life was unfair.

She wanted so badly to go back to her rainy and cold London, and forgot all about heat and papaya.

Had James Bond already lived such a disappointing mission ?
