N/A: This can be seen as an intro for a 'verse I imagined a few months back, but never really wrote. This is a story of a amnesiac girl who happens to be a powerful miliennia-old witch, who was part of a magic triad with her two sisters, until one of them went crazy and turned against the other two. There might be more if I decide to give it a go and imagine a bit more than what's here.

When you have lived for thousands of years, keeping a power capable of destroying empires, you don't stay entirely sane.

Insanity comes in different colours, though.

Katralla had been crushed by the weight of loneliness and loss. Living longer than the average human means losing everyone around you. Death is a natural part of life ; everyone is confronted to death, everyone loses someone at some point. But this particular kind of pain is supposed to eventually die, along with the conscience that sheltered it. Living forever means that it never goes away. You don't think about it all the time, of course. There is always periods when you enjoy the people who are there, without thinking of the one gone with pain and tears ; but as soon as the living go where the dead are, the memory of everyone you lost comes back to haunt you. It usually doesn't take long before you are too afraid to risk loving someone again. You stay away from the others, until the loneliness becomes too much to bear. And it goes all over again, the happiness, the pain, the loneliness, like a snake biting its own tail.

At some point in the process, Katralla's brain went crazy. She began hearing the voices of the one she had lost so many years ago. As creepy as it seemed, she found it comforting at times, when she felt lonely, to hear the love those people had for her, to remember she had been capable of love herself. But sometimes it was a burden, like all those voices didn't want to let her go ahead in life. She was traveling between comfort and fear, cutting herself from the living - and reality itself. When the pain and the fear were too much for her, she withdrew from the world, acting like a scared child, letting things happen instead of being actress of her own life. It could go on for decades, but she usually managed to get out of those crisis', even if she would never be the carefree girl she used to be again.

She didn't thought she was the one who had it the worst.

Her sister Solisean had been the first of them to show the effect of such a long life. It hadn't been long after they formed the Triad that she became suspicious. At first, she just had been particularly careful towards ennemies and strangers. She had seemed the wise one, since none of them had the habit of so much power, and Chanyi and Katralla hadn't understood the anxiety it could cause to other people. Suspicion had only grown bigger, though. She began fearing the ennemy, she continued fearing the ally. She saw betrayal everywhere. First it had been the staff, then the warlords that had joined them. She commanded secret investigations, and punished severly if she found anything not-so-regular. One day, she didn't need investigation anymore. She relied on her instincts, claming she knew better than any other how to dissociate the loyal from the traitor. Chanyi and Katralla had tried to stop her, of course ; Solisean only declared them foes. That's when the Triad imploded, branding the end of their Golden Age, and the beggining of centuries of hiding and fighting. Chanyi and Katralla had fought to live and try to reason their sister, but Solisean was going farther and farther into madness. Chanyi hadn't survived the pain of the situation, and chose to leave this world, weary of having lived so many lives to witness so much suffering and sadness. And Katralla had been left alone, a changeless one in a world ever changing.

It took her thousands of years to take the decision. Despite all the pain, all the fear, one part of her couldn't let go. But the day came when the weight of memories became too heavy for her. That's when she decided to erase everything and start fresh.
