Considering Melatonin Supplement

Feb 14, 2011 11:39

I've been considering taking melatonin to regulate my circadian rhythms. I absolutely hate the fact that, uninterrupted, I can sleep 11-12 hours a day. On weekdays, I get 7-9 hours, and although I'm trying to get up at the end of sleep cycle (when it's supposed to be the least painful), I don't always calculate it right. So typically I wake up groggy and unable to function properly when I get home from work (4 PM). If my schedule allows, I take a nap in the afternoon (1,5 hours). Exercise wakes me up for about an hour, then I'm a zombie again.

My GP doesn't have anything against my idea, though she isn't very knowledgeable about supplements in general. So here's my question: has any of you used melatonin to regulate your sleep cycles and combat sleep inertia? Did it help? Any tips on how to use melatonin to get the above mentioned results? I guess I'm hoping to improve the quality of sleep and thus need less of it to function on my optimal level.

Any input much appreciated!
