Hi Everyone-
My name is Kristin, and I am brand spanking new here. I have a couple questions, which I hope are appropriate for this community, or maybe someone can help me here. I was referred by a girl in the community aspecialparent.

The reason I am joining is for my son, Jakob who is three and has autism. Just as recently as two days ago, we made some amazing discoveries about my son's health and also are going to be making an entire lifestyle shift, one of which I am very nervous about. I guess I should explain.

I am not sure if anyone here knows much about alternative treatments in the way of Autism or not, but I'm going to try and explain it the best I can. My son had his blood drawn, and at the doctors on Tuesday, we came up with some interesting findings. The first one, is that he is very, VERY allergic to cow's milk (and cow bi-products), wheat, and also beef (which isn't surprising considering the first allergy). Those are the three that are major. There are a couple more small allergies, but nothing too huge. So obviously, we're going to have to start him on a gluten/casein free diet. Which I know NOTHING about. I'm not going to lie. I'm very ignorant in this field, and very scared. The scared part isn't really about *learning* what he can't and can't eat, it's mostly fear that he won't eat any of it. He's got severe sensory issues, and has a major texture issue. He likes to eat soft things. Noodles, soft fruit (canned), etc. Can anyone recommend anything on this diet that is soft, and easy to digest? Something that isn't too abrasive?

Also, along with allergies to foods, he's got a couple of medical conditions. Conditions that will be treated with all-natural remedies, that again- I know NOTHING about. So, I'm hoping to get some insight on these various supplements as well, if any of you can help me there.

The first condition that he has is a "leaky gut". Basically, it means that he's got a lot of yeast hanging around in his bowels. They're giving him a short term three month drug (a non natural one- the only non natural one) called Nystatin to expel it. Due to this, his liver is a little off. It's still functioning, and he's still healthy, but she feels that it could use a little "kick start" so she would like him to start Milk Thistle. They've also found ammonia in his blood. We have no idea where it came from. Cleaning materials maybe? Anyway, she wants him on AKG for that (and yes, I plan on ditching all "regular" cleaning materials and going natural). The last supplement she would like him on is B-12 Injections, a small dose once every three days.

I've got to admit- this is all very overwhelming when I know so little about these things. Is anyone on here using any of these supplements or know anything about them? I'm SO confused and feeling so lost, I could use about any input you all could give me. I've been googling the hell out of all of this since this all came back, but still, human interaction (or as close as I can get online..lol) is nice as well.

Thanks everyone. I look forward to being here.
