So, the pope is visiting the UK, it's a state visit and he was invited by the government and the Queen. Cool. I don't really care who the UK invites to visit, but I do want to mention a couple of things in passing. I mean, it won't come as a surprise to anyone reading this that I don't like the pope, at all. In fact, I think he's a force for ( Read more... )

Well said.

I also feel I more or less have to plug this fine song:

Perfect, and until the Church fully accepts it's actions and realises just what it did there can be no change. For the sake of the church I hope they can get their head around the little fact that the church is part of society not above it, that it is responsible for actions of those sanctioned to act in it's name[1], responsible for it's actions when realising what they were up to, responsible for the ongoing abuse those same priests forced on the innocent when they were moved to avoid justice.

If it cannot change then it will continue to contract in size and influence and I personally will shed not a single tear.

Thanks for the link - I like Tim's stuff (and he's a nice guy who very kindly sent an email to my daughter on her 18th birthday when I told him she was a fan and that she'd be at his gig on her birthday).

I did, and while I think his hats and dresses are very silly indeed, I do concede the awesomeness of the sign. :)

The man is either evil or deluded. I found his warning about Nazi-like secularism absurd, AKA "Watch out for those people who challenge our powerbase"...

Unless he's mindbogglingly stupid, I think we're left with evil, really. I can't convince myself he's incredibly stupid.

I won't go with evil, I would go with (like Rowan Williams) incredibly focused in one direction and thus all other aspects of the world are secondary and probably caused by one of the things he's an expert in (for example priests abused children because said children were in fact agents of the devil and therefore it's not entirely their fault).

Doesn't excuse a thing, itmight explain a few.

The Catholic church isn't the only religion with this problem, CoE's very own Rowan Williams is a very bright human, but it's so far up his arse in religion he can't seem to grasp the realities of the world.

*sigh* and he's in charge!!!

*shakes head*

I like the idea from one of Robin Williams' sketches on his standup when he said that in Christ's next coming he wouldn't look like Ted Neeley (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0070239/) but more like Charles Bronson and he'd be p*ssed off! ... Happy thoughts ;-)
