Wine!
I had a lovely day with derora and mctsensitive. We visited Solomon's Island Winery, owned by a friend of Derora's; tasted wine; had a lovely lunch; and visited on the back porch overlooking flowing water-the name of which I forget.
In addition to good cheer [which may have been aided by the glasses of white merlot (during lunch) and chocolate raspberry port (after lunch) we had], I came away with two bottles of the light and fruity Kiwi Pear Sauvignon Blanc, and one bottle each of the very sweet Riesling Icewine and incredibly decadent Chocolate Marytage Sauce.
I've never been a fan of merlot, but this white merlot had a lovely dark aftertaste of cherries. The chocolate raspberry port smells wonderful (a local liquor store holds sniffings!) and is so highly anticipated that it sells out within 3 months.
Apparently Calvert County has become quite the little Napa Valley, as there are apparently 10 (I'm not sure what the term is: specialty? I know it's not microbrewery) wineries in the area now. Solomon's Island Winery was the first. They just started charging for tastings ($5) and do many festivals around the area.
brak666, I shall be bringing the Icewine and some Stilton cheese with me next week. The Chocolate Marytage Sauce is supposed to be good over strawberries, cheesecake, and ice cream if you or anyone else would be interested. ::innocent look::
