The short story “The Machine Stops” had numerous themes in common with the novel “A Brave New World”. One of which was the whole idea of taking pills to avoid feeling emotions. Although I haven’t read “A Brave New World” I assume it has something to do with a very tech-dependent society. While technology does help us interact, I agree that it takes the fun out of living our lives. Playing computer games is fun for a while, but it does not satisfy us the way hanging out with friends and family does. For people it is much more meaningful to interact with others rather than technology.

I totally agree with you, though I have not read “A Brave New World”. From the way you described it the book sounds exactly like the movie “Equilibrium”. Human communication should never be just through the phone or other forms of technology but physical, you being face to face with that individual. People might get feelings for others by just interacting daily; through technology however those feelings are not as strong or real as if you were physically interacting with that person…
