As it stands now, I think I gotst myself a job! I'll be working at the Lacoste Gallery in Concord Center. This is a sweet gig. Its really the only ceramics gallery that I've seen outside of Northampton or Boston. The pay is only $8 an hour, but thats not SOOOO bad. Plus, I FINALLY have a job in my field of study. Organic farming = mass petroleum consumption as well. If you are living anywhere else other that remote areas of the African wilderness or in the South American amazonian jungle, you are directly contributing to petroleum consumption and capitalism. The myth of "It's ok, I buy only organic so I'm not contributing to the global problem" is totally, completely, and utterly false. Frankly, it's just plain horse shit. Anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant and using selective reasoning. If you are living in the US, or anywhere in Europe, you are contributing to that usage and supporting sweatshop labor. Like it or not. Frankly, I really am not currently a fan of the US. I think it is a corporate quagmire that is moving closer and closer to a police state, and trying to impose its own national interest upon the rest of the world. So I don't want to hear any crap about me being conservative or a nazi from anyone. But it has allowed both me and YOU the chance to grow up in relatively safe and nurturing environment. That was entirely due to capitalism, believe it or not.
After considering both the pros and cons and deliberating over the decision carefully, one must make their own decisions regarding what one wants to do with their time and image. But an idealistic 17 year old who is greatly influenced by the utopian and sometimes unrealistic ideas of peers that all share the same skewed world view is not probably making that decision based only on their gut and their basis of right and wrong.
