Everyday Creativity

I reviewed a video the other day at work called "Everyday Creativity" with Dewitt Jones. Jones is a National Geographic photographer who uses his life experience with photos to encourage people to find the extraordinary in the everyday lives- whether it's at work or in life. It's one of my favorite training films because it's really inspiring to me; probably because I work in a creative role already...

Anyhow, after watching it I decided that there's a limit to how many creative things I can do (especially with a son in my life now) so I should really focus on the ones that I'm pretty good at or that I really enjoy. So, I figured out four interconnected hobbies/talents of mine that I think I can weave together and really be proud of.

Writing.
I got a job as a screenwriter so I'm pretty good at this one already. But I'm getting better and I can't wait to see what I'll be writing in a couple of years after being able to really hone my skills here in Seattle.

Music.
I love writing music/playing music/listening to music. I'm not going to be a rock star. I'm not going to sell a million records. BUT, I like composing music and after watching this TED Video, I'm convinced that integrating music into my life is a way to actually continue to brush up on my IQ and EQ.

Photography.
I did a lot of photography in High School. I REALLY liked it. Then I did a bunch in college and REALLY REALLY liked it. Then I joined a rock band and stopped taking pictures. I'll never be as good as Dewitt Jones, but I really want to get that back into my life.

Home Video.
This sort of brings all three together. I can write and edit the shots and speech. I can add a soundtrack of my own creation. I can take the video (although I'm NOT very good with the camera yet).

This week, in order to really work on the writing and photography part, I'm going to be taking pictures of something interesting or beautiful on the way to work and blog about it...
