This morning, I got an idea for an original novel. I'm super-excited about that, but also apprehensive to the point of giving up before I even started. So, I'd like to ask for help.
The premise is based on convergent evolution. Once upon a time there were two fish. One had two pairs of fins, the other three pairs. Both evolved. The first to amphibians, lizards, birds and mammals, the other to dragons, griffins, angels.
But as is always the case with my story ideas, this is a hypothesis. It can be tested easily (collect sample, sequence DNA, construct phylogeny, write a paper, the end), but it's not a story. The story has a plot and characters. I came up with that as well, only it has no twist, no villain, no conflict other than emotional. And here is the crux of the problem: The novel will require things I'm crap at writing - thoughts, emotions, plot.
Along the way, I'm going to get lost in love of the world. I already have. There shall be People in Need and Greenpeace, and politics and humanity. I need someone to keep me on track. For starter, to help me figure out the plot. Because I would just sequence a gene or two and prove once and for all that no, dragons are not lizards. There is no better place than fandom to ask for genuine help. Here, one can get shattering criticism that moves one forward that I lack in Czech speculative prose community.
Ultimately, the story will be written in Czech. It will take me years to write, but it can get published here more easily. For you, I'd flip it to English simultaneously.
