Looking for a designer 07 - Part 1

Feb 15, 2007 17:10

DreamBoss and I interviewed a prospective junior designer this afternoon. This girl had been a 'senior' and was obviously wanting more money than we were offering but wanted to come see us anyway.
DreamBoss was down there for longer than I expected. Then I went down to have a quick flick through her work and ask pointy questions (DB likes to be good guy so I do all the dirty work. Hey it's a living).
The young lady had already indicated to me that she was very unhappy where she was working and only took the job because there was nothing else available and she needed to earn a living. That's fine.
What's not fine is that she bitched non-stop about her current misery working for a studio that does financial company work (very dry, not particularly creative) but also about her previous employers. Ones that had given her glowing written references.
She tried it with me, but I looked at her and said "is your life really that bad?" and she looked shame-faced and said "Oh I'm just being a whinger. Sorry." and proceeded to talk about work related stuff.
When DB and I compared notes, he said he didn't like her attitude and I agreed wholeheartedly. I told him that there was only room for one overwrought drama queen in this office and that was me. He agreed (damn him!).
I wasn't game enough to openly reject her on the basis of her eyeglasswear but this is my shameful truth. I really don't think I can work with a prissy girl who has a blatant tanning salon addiction and apes that Hilton creature. Especially if she's a whiny and two-faced.
Back to looking at CVs and folios again!
