An in-school post

I'm in the staff computer room at the moment having a free period, so thought i'd update. Gemma visited us last night and was the first official overnight guest we have had stay with us. We got away without having to make her lie under the table (just about) my using the 4 sofa cushions as a bed, with a sleeping bag to lay on top of these, and then a big duvet on top. I am assured it was actually quite comfy, but hope i never have occasion to try it out! She is doing an MA in heritage studies in ironbridge and sounds very enthused by it all. Which is good. I like people to be enthused.

So what am i enthused about at the moment? I've just had a nice lesson with yr 13, and i am not teaching my yr 9 class today as they are watching a video. Probably a recipe for disaster as they'll be climbing the walls by the end after sitting still for over half an hour, but at least that's their next teacher's problem for period 6, not mine. I'm doing a yr 12 lesson this afternoon which i hope goes well, about martin luther king's leadership. It's all planned, but if anyone knows a lot about it, email me or something. Last week i managed to use an aretha franklin song in the lesson which i thought was 'pretty darn sweet' as paul might say.

By the end of today i'll be on week 12 of my course. It's amazing how time flies, and how much you improve in so little time. Plus how tired you can get. At least i'm more organised with my work than paul who goes out and then works til 2am sometimes, or even 4am one night last week. Oh to be a chemist. I also went to visit my next term's placement school on tuesday, which was a really good day and despite the distance away it is i think i'm really going to enjoy working there. I'm liking teaching, as i thought i would, which is a relief. Loads of people have dropped out of the pgce though, so obviously not everyone is having such a positive experience.

On more exciting notes, tonight i am going to a play with paul and some friends from jesus called 'a small family business' which if rubbish i'm going to strangle sian, as she recommended it and bought our tickets. Then on saturday i am privileged to announce that i shall be attending the paterson group chemist's dinner, a posh cocktail dress affair where we have to have our photo taken beforehand. Although if it snows as heavily as it did last night, that could be an amusing combination of girls in goosebumps and men with white-coloured hair. Hmmm, not quite the point of the photo i don't think. And next weekend is even more exciting, as i'm going to lincolnshire for hazel's birthday with paul for the weekend. I haven't decided what to buy hazel yet though. I like going to stay at paul's house, as his parents (unlike mine) have been wonderfully accomodating with me and paul, and have redecorated his room and put a double bed in it for us and it looks gorgeous. No more dart-holes in the wall either, a distinct improvement, although i should admit perhaps to causing a couple myself from the 2 times or something i played there. Anyway, that should be a nice break away with some wonderful cooking. We'll also be seeing paul's grandparents again who i got on well with last time i saw them, and who rather amusingly said to paul at the dinner table as i went out to make tea 'well, haven't you done well, getting a girl like her!' Hehe, i will love them forever for that comment alone.

So overall, everything happy and going well. Hope the same is true for whoever reads this too. xx
