D'you know, I still can't make up my mind about how much I liked or didn't like that episode. It was very up and down, actually. Bits of it I absolutely adored, other bits did nothing for me. I definitely liked the first part more...
This one is an episode I really feel like re-watching together with the first part, it doesn't quite work so well on its own, I feel. Some 2-parters do. This one doesn't. Anyway.
I hope UNIT will make regular appearances now. And I hope the Doctor will drop his cocky holier-than-thou behaviour next time around, that was a little bit overdone in this one. Although I did enjoy:
Doctor: *dead impressed at the Valiant's appearance*
Mace: "Are you starting to enjoy this, Doctor?"
Doctor: *caught out* "Me? No, never." *ahem*
Also,
Luke Rattigan was very impressive in this. Both the character and the actor. His self-sacrifice made me gasp. Especially since Doctor = TOO MUCH OF A WIMP TO KILL HIMSELF! (And after watching Confidential, I now know that this was, indeed, intentional. To quote RTD: "Give the button to the one person who won't be able to press it. Then Luke teleports in, and we never find out if the Doctor would have pressed it. It's probably better that way.") I agree. On first viewing, I didn't like it. But then I gave it some more thought, and it's become one of my favourite scenes. It's easy to mistake the Doctor for a classic superhero. You know, someone who always does the right thing, is fearless when faced with danger, always saves the day. But he doesn't, and isn't, and doesn't. I like the whole idea that he never went looking for trouble in the first place when he left Gallifrey, he was actually looking for a way OUT of trouble, whatever trouble that may have been, back home. But then trouble always finds him and he has to deal with it best as he can... and things rarely go smoothly.
Anyway, enough rambling!
To my own surprise, I cried when the Martha clone died.
Donna was awesome. (Is she ever not?)
Ross got shot. ):
Mace and Price kissing, haha! That was totally unexpected but made me laugh.
Rose - I liked that blink-and-you'll-miss-it bit. I'm starting to get genuinely curious about how and why she comes back and... yes. I shall not be reading any spoilers for the finale.
Now, the next time trailer... it's no secret that I'm looking forward to 'The Doctor's Daughter' more than anything in this entire series. Which means I already had a lot of expectations. The trailer was not quite what I expected, but I can't say I didn't like it, actually. Arse-kicking-gun-wielding!Jenny kind of... well... kicks arse. *lol* Because if nothing else, I did expect the Doctor's daughter to be very much unlike the Doctor, and possibly not be very happy to see him. And from what the trailer shows she's the Doctor's worst traits taken to the extreme. I love the little smirk on her face before she does the ninja backflipping through the lazers thing. It's like: "Yes, I could get myself killed, but I love this..." It's like the very same expression the Doctor gets when he lands on an alien world and waltzes right into the worst possible situations. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think Jenny has this wide-eyed-madman thing going on which he sometimes displays, but with less moral restraint and probably much less compassion. Which is... interesting, really! Okay, now I'm properly looking forward to next week again. Also:
Donna: "Where did she come from?"
Doctor: "She came from me..."
Donna: "From you? But how?"
Doctor: "...wellll..."
Haha! Birds and the bees, Donna...
Honestly, I hope that's all he'll ever say on the matter in the episode. I really don't even want to find out who the mother is, although judging by that trailer, it might just be the Rani! XD
