The rule of thumb definition of addiction, as I've always understood it, is pursuing any behavior that is producing negative consequences in your life.
But, I'm gonna get on a bit of the soapbox here. 'Cause I've seen a lot of this over the years. We all want to say somebody else has a problem. Not us, it couldn't be ourselves. But it's really easy to look at someone else and say that this is the issue.
So I'm gonna run down the list of negative consequences that I've seen recently.
-- Violent behavior or at best the expression of feelings of anger and hurt in a negative way
-- Spending excessively on drinking to points that leave them with serious financial consequences.
-- Ignorance of societal responsibilities to friends and the like.
-- Spousal cheating, and the breaking of trusts
-- Not too mention completely incoherent, falling down, needing to be carried to their bed drunk
In short, we are ALL in a glass house here. And there's not a god damn one among us that can afford to throw stones anymore.
