Chapter 3

It was already very dark but Jaejoong didn’t move an inch from where he sat beside the road. The people that passed by gave him weird looks. Some even thought that he was crazy. Jaejoong didn’t mind the people whispering things about him. He felt very numb and he didn’t give a damn about other people’s opinion.

“Jaejoong hyung?” a voice spoke softly. Jaejoong didn’t move as if he never heard anything. The person who spoke went in front of him. Jaejoong slightly lifted his head and saw Junsu staring at him with worry. His friend’s face became more worried when he saw that he had been crying. Jaejoong’s eyes were red and the tears that were already dry were evident on his face.

“Come on. Let’s go now.” Junsu said as he held on Jaejoong’s shoulders and tried to lift him up. Jaejoong didn’t say a word and he stood up. Junsu wrapped his arm around Jaejoong’s shoulders and lead the way. He accompanied Jaejoong all the way to his house.

Jaejoong was silent the whole time he was with Junsu. He didn’t want to talk and at the same time didn’t know what to say. Junsu was very worried about his friend but didn’t dare ask him what happened. He guessed that whatever happened to Jaejoong was very recent and the wound was still fresh. No wonder Jaejoong looked very devastated.

Junsu suggested for Jaejoong to take a few days off from work. Jaejoong just nodded in agreement. When it was already very late in the night, Junsu left Jaejoong alone in his house.

Three days had passed since Jaejoong took a leave. That day, it was already time for him to go back to work. All of the models were already in the studio for their photo shoot but there was still no sign of Jaejoong.

“Where is Jaejoong hyung?” Changmin asked.

“Does he know that today is the day he resumes his work?” Yoochun asked. Junsu looked at them with a worried face.

“Yes, I called him yesterday.” Junsu answered. “I think we better check up on him.”

“Did something happen to him?” Changmin asked again.

“Actually, I think something bad happened to Jaejoong hyung three days ago. I just saw him sitting near a lamp post beside the road. He really looked lifeless and pitiful. He wasn’t speaking and he didn’t have the strength to even go home. I was the one who helped him get back to his house.” Junsu explained.

“We really need to check on him. I’ll go with you Junsu. Changmin, you stay here in the studio. We don’t know if Jaejoong hyung is in his house right now so you need to be here if he happens to go to work.” Yoochun instructed.

“Okay. Give me a call when you find Jaejoong hyung.” Changmin agreed.

“Alright. Let’s go Junsu.” Yoochun said and he immediately left with Junsu.

They arrived outside Jaejoong’s house and stood near the front door. Junsu pressed the doorbell and waited for the door to open. A few minutes passed and they heard footsteps coming. The knob turned and the door opened and revealed Jaejoong.

“What are you doing here?” Jaejoong asked weakly. He was so pale that he seemed to be sick. He looked worse than when Junsu last saw him.

“That’s what we should ask you Jaejoong hyung. Why didn’t you come to work?” Yoochun asked. It was his first time to see Jaejoong like that and it scared him.

“I don’t want to. Now if you don’t have anything to say anymore, just leave.” Jaejoong said and was about to close the door when Yoochun placed his hand on the door and prevented it from closing.

“We’re not going to go anywhere until you fix yourself.” Yoochun said as he was getting angry. He didn’t like it that Jaejoong was ruining his life.

Junsu and Yoochun entered Jaejoong’s house without permission. There were scattered bottles of water and rum on the floor. Junsu looked at Jaejoong and realized that his friend was still wearing the same clothes three days ago. He had a hunch that Jaejoong wasn’t eating anything for the past three days and only took in water and alcohol.

“Jaejoong hyung, you know that you can talk to us. Tell us what happened.” Junsu pleaded.

“There’s no point in telling you what happened. Nothing will change.” Jaejoong said coldly.

“Hyung! Why are you being like this? You think you’re the only one being hurt? Don’t be selfish! It hurts us seeing you like this!” Yoochun said as he couldn’t stand it anymore. Jaejoong didn’t say anything and fell silent. He avoided Yoochun and Junsu’s stares.

“Jaejoong hyung, come on. Take a shower and come with us to work.” Junsu said as he held on Jaejoong’s arm.

“Didn’t you hear me earlier?! I said I didn’t want to go to work!” Jaejoong forcefully slapped Junsu’s hand from his arm. He didn’t mean to do that and he was shocked himself. Junsu stared at Jaejoong with hurt and fear in his eyes.

“I-I’m sorry Junsu.” Jaejoong said without meeting Junsu’s eyes.

“Hyung, we’re just concerned about you. Please, don’t shove us away.” Junsu begged.

“Junsu, I...I’m not yet ready. I...” Jaejoong started but was cut off by Yoochun.

“But Jaejoong hyung, when will you be ready? When you finally get yourself admitted inside a hospital for not eating anything? Is that what you want?!” Yoochun said as he raised his voice. Being calm was something that he couldn’t do at the moment.

“Please, just leave.” Jaejoong said quietly.

“Chun, let’s just go.” Junsu said quietly to Yoochun.

“No Junsu. I’m not going to just sit by and watch Jaejoong hyung ruin his life.” Yoochun said with determination and walked to Jaejoong. He grabbed his arm and was starting to drag Jaejoong towards the stairs.

“What the hell are you doing Yoochun?! Let me go!” Jaejoong screamed and began to jerk his body to loosen Yoochun’s hold on him. Junsu watched silently.

“You need to go to work!” Yoochun shot back.

“What is wrong with you two?! I said I don’t want to go to work! What is so hard to understand with that?!” Jaejoong was starting to get hysterical. Yoochun stopped and looked at Jaejoong.

“Why do you keep on insisting on something that I can’t do? You think I can still work after what happened to me? No!” Jaejoong’s raging emotions were starting to surface. He started crying.

“Three days ago, I saw him again.” Jaejoong started. He didn’t dare mention Yunho’s name because just his name brought pain to his already crushed heart.

‘So this is about Yunho hyung.’ Yoochun thought to himself. Yoochun and Junsu watched and listened to Jaejoong.

“When I saw him, my hopes went up. I waited for him to come back for two years. I didn’t lose hope that one day, he would come back and tell me his reason for leaving. That day came three days ago.”

“But instead of my silly dream of him explaining everything to me, instead of being back together with him, he said that he didn’t know me.” Jaejoong forced the words from his mouth. More tears came after that.

“Do...do you know how painful that is? I really believed that he loved me. I hoped that he would be back in my arms again. But he...he treated me...like a stranger.” Jaejoong said and cried hard.

“He was everything to me, but I was nothing to him. Now tell me. If you were in my place, where you thought that the person you loved would come back to you and you got your heart crushed by that same person, would you be able to go to work? Would you even have the heart to do anything?!” Jaejoong asked. Junsu and Yoochun didn’t answer.

“Why aren’t you saying anything? Answer me!” Jaejoong shouted and he fell on the floor and continued crying.

“Jaejoong hyung” Junsu whispered and hugged Jaejoong close. Jaejoong continued to cry in Junsu’s arms.

When Jaejoong was calm enough, Yoochun talked to him again.

“Jaejoong hyung, I’m sorry for earlier. I didn’t have a clue how hurt you were. I didn’t take into account how you felt. But I have something to say to you. You have to stop doing this to your life.” Yoochun started.

“I know that what Yunho hyung did hurt you a lot, but your life doesn’t stop there. I’m not saying that you should immediately forget about that because it’s impossible. It takes time to heal and erase the pain. In order to do that, you have to stop sulking around and not do anything with your life.”

“I’m saying all of this because I’m concerned about you Jaejoong hyung. Little by little, I know that you’ll forget about him. You don’t deserve to suffer like this. If Yunho hyung doesn’t want you anymore, it’s his loss. You need to show him that you’re strong. You won’t be able to recover quickly if you keep on doing this. A fresh start is what you need. Forget everything about Yunho hyung and bury the past.” Yoochun finished. He hoped that Jaejoong would come back to his senses.

“Yoochun is right, hyung. And don’t worry because Yoochun, Changmin, and I will always be here for you.” Junsu said.

“Thank you for your concern.” Jaejoong said and gave a tired smile.

Junsu and Yoochun first made sure that Jaejoong ate something before they left. Junsu prepared porridge for Jaejoong and they watched him eat. Their worry lessened a bit after seeing their friend eat something after three days of fasting. But their hearts were still burdened because Jaejoong was very hurt. Who knew how long it would take for him to fully recover? They hoped that Jaejoong would come back to his normal self.

After his two friends left his house, Jaejoong decided to finally fix himself up. He started by taking a shower. Without even removing his clothes, he stood under the shower and opened the tap.          Warm water poured on his head and down to his body. After a few minutes, his whole body was drenched.

Jaejoong let himself replay the heartbreaking scene from three days ago on his mind. It was so crystal clear in his mind, like he was watching it before his eyes. He clearly remembered Yunho’s cold expression, his impassive voice as he denied Jaejoong’s existence in his life, how he didn’t even spare a glance at Jaejoong.

“How could you change into a very different person in such a short time?” Jaejoong said quietly as water kept on pouring from the open shower. He distinctly remembered Yunho from the incident three days ago and his Yunho two years ago. Though they look the same, they were like two totally different people. Yunho’s friendly and caring aura could no longer be found. The warmness in his brown orbs was replaced with a coldness that could icily pierce with one stare.

Feeling weak from the pain in his heart, Jaejoong sat down on the wet floor and leaned his back on the tiled wall. He hugged his body close as he wrapped his arms on his legs. He allowed himself to cry. The tears weren’t visible as it mixed with the water coming from the shower.

‘This is the last time that I’ll allow you to hurt me. This is the last time that I’ll shed tears for you. A person like you doesn’t deserve my love. I waited but all I get is to get thrown away by you like dirt. I hate you Jung Yunho.’

As the water went down the drain, Jaejoong hoped that his love for Yunho would go along with it.
