Chapter 03
Reborn every time the sun rises
Cure startled awake and barely held back a scream. The phantom sound of laughter rung in her ears as she covered her face in fright. When nothing tried to grab her, she sat up, eyes wide as her heart tried to abandon her chest. She looked around herself frankly, but only saw her sleeping companions around her. Her pursuers had remained behind in her dreams.
The inside of the tree was dark and cold, but she peered into the darkness in search for what had startled her away from the nightmare. She was about to dismiss it, thinking perhaps it had been her own fright that had woken her up, when she spied a figure in the corner of her eyes. Talons was sitting near the entrance of their hiding place, watching silently as they slept.
The Canadian stood up as silently as she could and made her way next to her. Talons didn't turn to look at her, fixing her eyes at something Cure couldn't see. Fufu mumbled something on her sleep and turned over, snuggling closer to Mik. The girls had curled together to keep warm, with Ven and Tina in the Center. Cure half wished she had thought of bringing one of the blankets as she sat on the cold floor next to her.
"Can't sleep?" She whispered softly.
"…I did sleep. A little." The Aussie sighed and leaned back.
"...You don't trust them to keep us safe while we rest?" Talons glanced at the other girl and shook her head.
"…The curses left to check that no one had picked up our trail. I have been keeping watch ever since." Cure nodded. "Despite the secrets and 'rules' I have to admit they have done nothing but done their best to keep us safe. I don't think they have sleep yet and only eat a little bit since we got here."
The younger girl stared at their sleeping companions, feeling glad for the moment to rest they had been given. 'But what about the others?'
"…Do you think the rest are safe?" Talons peered at the other girl as she hunched over herself. "We are so few and we have two of them keeping us safe…" 'It's not fair.'
"With Mik, Ven and me here, Seme curse is bound to come after us. And Uke will go after you and Tina." The older girl patted the other gently on the head. "And if Poofing Curse is here it is bound to chase after us too. The more curses chasing us, the safer they will be."
"…And Kirby?"
"…She is their bait." The Aussie said after a pause. "They know we won't leave even if we could without her."
The two girls fell silent, watching over their friends silently as they slept. It was a relief to be able to stop after all that had happen, even if it was only for a little time. None of them were in top form to be running around all day, well, except maybe Cure herself. She had almost dozed off again when they heard something on the outside. Talons motioned her to be silent and stood up, ready to attack anything that come to take them.
"We are back, fabulous friends~ It's time to wake up and get moving~"
"Guess they are back." Talons muttered to herself and went to pick up a back pack. "Cheers." Cure stifled a laugh and went to shake the rest of the group awake. The Canadian sighed in relief internally when she saw Tina wake up without trouble. The Aussie exited their hiding place to see that the outside was covered in a thick fog that didn't allow her to see more than a couple meters ahead.
The two curses stood almost directly before the entrance, two digimon beside them. The digimon perked up inmediately as Talons emerged, moving to greet her eagerly. The rest of the group began to emerge after her. "Hello!" The little orange sun with a flame on it's head said cheerfully. "I'm Sunmon."
"Pleased to make your acquaintance, ladies~ I'm Ryuudamon." The other digimon said, bowing to them. It was something resembling a dinosaur wearing a samurai's armor. Pizza shock its head and entered the tree as the last of the girls exited. "It will be a pleasure to travel with such lovely creatures~."
"I see it takes after it's chosen partner." Talons muttered. "Lucky us."
"Weren't you bigger the last time?" Shiny asked, pointing at the digimon.
"That was Apollomon you saw last time." Pizza explained as it emerged from the tree carrying the rest of their luggage. "Sunmon is it's rookie form."
"We should hurry or we won't get there in time." Ryuudamon stated.
"On time? What do we need to be in time for?" Fufu peered at the digimon doubtfully.
"To meet our ride."

A heavy morning mist covered the forest as the group made their way across it. Tired and slightly damp, the girls followed the androgynous curse towards their destination. Tine felt like her feet were made of lead as she forced herself to keep walking after it. They had rested only around an hour before they had to set of again and had stopped even when night fell. Chocolate had distribuited some of its name sake around, but all of them were exhausted. 'The dancing bull better be waiting for us there.' The girl thought to herself, plotting the ways she would have her revenge if the curse wasn't. 'My mother fucking feet are about to fell off at this pace.'
North had began to drag South after a while, encouraging her to keep going. Icepelt had started to mutter complains under her breath a while back, but The curse thankfully couldn't make out what she was saying.The rest wasn't better off and Chocolate knew they would have to stop soon before one of them collapsed. But they hadn't been ready for so many of them to be captured. The food they had hidden in the forest had been a back up plan in case the first hiding spot was found out. Now they were paying for that mistake. "We are almost there, just keep it up a little longer and we can stop."
Some of the girls grunted their acknowledgement, too tired to speak. The curse slowed down and motioned for them to be silent. Treyen peered ahead, but the fog made it hard too tell if they were approaching something. As it was, they were entirely dependent on the curse to know if they were going the correct way. 'Not that seeing would make much of a difference in that.'
Chocolate finally stopped and the rest of the group gathered around it. Two, maybe three meters ahead, the forest had been cut off and a cross road and a street sign in some strange symbols could be seen. E and Midori recognised the symbols as the ones used in the Digital World, but they couldn't make head or tails of the meaning of them.
"Strange... They should be here already..." Chocolate whispered to itself. The curse didn't move from their hiding place, waiting to see if its fellow curse would appear. "Maybe you all should move back... We don't kn-"
"CHOCOLATE! RUN!"
"GRAB THEM AND RUN!"
"What the hell?!" Icepelt shouted before Chocolate turned back and began to push them back.
"RUN!" The curse shouted.
"Not so fast, my lovely ladies. Did you think that all of us would simply chase the rest of your friends?" A man said as he blocked their escape, smiling chillingly at them. The mist partially obscured his shape, but Treyen was sure that they had just encountered yet another one of the curses. And this one appeared to be as friendly to them as Seme curse. "That would be very rude of us, ignoring all of you, no?"
"You keep your hands to yourself, you pervert!" A girl voice come from behind them, but none of the girls dared to look. Chocolate pushed its way to the front of the group, with Treyen behind it.
"Now, now, no need to be hostile." The man said, shaking his head in mock sadness.
"Brother, we are here to capture them or kill them, not ask them out on a date." A woman voice said from above them. Pyro looked up to see the vague shape of something hovering over them. She itched to throw a bomb to it, but it could end up crashing on their heads. 'No way to aim with this fog.'
"Ah, you are no fun, dear sister." The man replied frowning at the direction of the voice.
"We aren't here to have fun either. Ravmon."
"Spiral Raven Claw!"
"Koryu Slash!"
"MOVE!" Come the order and the girls scrambled to either side as a energy blast impacted directly where they had been standing. A dark winged warrior like digimon stood up, aiming at them with its sword. A heavily armored digimon crashed into the other, sword in flames as the fended off. Above them, the sound of battle also continued, the occasional cry piercing the fog.
"Come on, we are getting out of here while Gamer distracts them!" A man approached running from the road.
"Move!" Chocolate shouted running to the side. It didn't look back to see if they follow, and soon was a vague silhouette as it run. The girls had little choice but to run as a cry of pain filled rang through the sky.

Mik sighed in relief as the forest broke up into a beach. The way had been damp until the fog had cleared, and very cold. Water kept condensing on her glasses and her sneakers had become increasedly drenched as they went. Pizza and Sunmon walked ahead and Fabulous with his digimon brought the rear. The march was easier than yesterday, with rest and food, but as they approached the sea, the curses grew anxious. Pizza lead them to a small wooden dock and frowned at the sea.
"They are late..." The curse finally said.
"What do we do? Wait or go?" Fabulous asked.
"Waiting would put them in danger. We better leave as soon as we can."
"Were the rest suppose to meet us here?" Shiny asked, looking concerned. "Shouldn't we wait for them, then?"
"Too dangerous here in the open. And we can easily miss each other in the forest." Fabulous disagreed. "Our Fabulous Chocolate knows what to do in case they run late."
Cure was about to protest too when she saw a little pink head emerge from the sea. The creature smiled at her and waved with a pink fin. She waved reflectively back, drawing the attention of the rest. Pizza turned to look, but before it could say anything, the digimon submerged again and the dock began to shake under their feet.
"Run to the shore!" Someone shouted, but it was too late. Cure saw a bright light as she fell and heard distant cries as she plunged into the sea.
"Sunmon evolve to.... Apollomon!"
"Ryudamon evolves to... Alphamon!"
Her back pack dragged her down and she struggled to free herself of it. Her clothing and shoes were heavy, but she was too clumsy to attempt to remove those. 'Air, I need air!' She thought furiously, swimming as hard as she could towards what she thought was the surface.
Air was never so sweet as she broke into the surface, coughing salty water out as the salt stung in her eyes. The rest of the girls and the two curses resurfaced around her, spluttering and half blind as she was.
"Chu?" Cure looked up to see the pink digimon floating over her, a sweet smile on its face. "Chuchu~<3"
"Get away of us, you freak!" Mik shouted at the Digimon.
"Arrow of Apollo!" The digimon let out a startled chu and fled, Apollomon giving chase. On the shore, Cure saw two blurs locked in combat, and farther back Seme curse and a girl stood. "Come back here!"
"Cure! Are you alright? Mik swam closer, looking frightened out her skin. The rest of their group approached, the curses helping Ven and Tina stay afloat. "What's going on?!"
"They caught us and most likely your friends as well." Fabulous said grimly.
"What do we do?!" Shiny cried. "Waaaaaah!"
Cure let out her scream of terror as she felt the water under her disappear. She looked up and saw the interior of a gigantic mouth.
"We are going to diiiiiieeeeee!" Someone shouted, she wasn't sure who.
"Apollomon! Alphamon! Time to go!" Fabulous shouted.
Cure gasped as she landed in a hep over a rough tongue, the pain of the impact silencing the screams. Almost instantly, the mouth began to close and the squieks began anow. "Come on!"
"Chuchu!" Come the cry and a ray of pink energy impacted near Tina and Fabulous. The man swore and covered the girl. "Chu!"
"Whamon! Go!" The curse cried as the water began to enter as they felt the creature sink. Apollomon bursted in and de-evolved as it crashed into the side of the bigger digimon's mouth. The pink digimon squeaked as Alphamon gave it a kick in his way in an propulsed it out. "Hold on, my girls!"
The world turned completely dark as they plunged and the water that had gotten in filtred inside the digimon's throat. Cure held on the thing's tongue, a coarse thing that thankfully prevented her plummeting into its stomach.
"Everyone is in one piece?" Shiny cried out. Various grunts replied in more or less afirmative. Sunmon floated up from were it had crashed and made its way to the center of Whamon's mouth. The rest of them gathered around him, shivering and utterly drenched. The fire digimon gave on a heat not unlike an actual fire and they formed a tight circle around it to warm and dry themselves.
They were safe once again.
Safe and alone.
