When he finally escaped Inosuke and Shikako's mothers, Temaru finally understood why the two chuunin were as crazy as they were. They dragged him around (for such small women they were insane strong) trying to find a gift for Chouko that wouldn't get him laughed at or make Chouko cry. Birthdays weren't an important thing in Suna, they sort of passed by like every other day. Apparently in Konoha though, holidays and birthdays were celebrated and celebrated hard.
Even though they found nothing, Temaru was lucky to have a glass blown butterfly that he picked up for her in Suna, but didn't have the time to give it to her yet. Where there was sand there was glass and where else could there be more glass than in the desert? Suna had some of the most talented glass blowers as well. The ornament was beautiful and, guaranteed by the blower, able to impress any girl.
