Once Kiba had gotten word of the Hokage's return, she had wasted no time in asking if there was anything more he could tell her. She had expected another no, not yet, keeping waiting, I will when I can... but instead she had gotten a yes and an instruction to find her team as soon as she could. Hoshino had already been close by when Kiba had gotten ( Read more... )

Hinaji was unaware of the three teammates racing towards him, so when he heard the commotion outside he rushed to his door to see Akako and Kiba and Hoshino all hurrying towards him.

...Just what was going on?

"K-kiba-chan? Hoshino-chan...?" Whatever he'd been doing before was completely forgotten as he ran out to meet them, worry evident in his expression. Was someone hurt? Was sensei...? "What's wrong? What's happened...?!"

Please let everything be alright...

"You're coming with us."

It didn't matter if he wasn't ready or if the girls were slightly out of breath. Movement needed to start happening again, and it needed to start happening now. That much Hoshino was dead certain of. What were they actually getting into? Who knew. More importantly, who cared? The team was together and they were going to see the Hokage because something was up with their sensei.

"Right now."

... right, she should probably explain before she gave him a heart attack. But she didn't start to speak until Akako was turning around- she knew Hinaji would follow.

"Hokage's back," Kiba explained, glancing back at him. "I asked him if there was anything yet he could tell us, and he said it was unfair to leave us as they were. So he said to gather my team and go to the Hokage's Tower and he'll speak to us."

Wait, what? He looked between Hoshino and Kiba before nodding slightly and following after. He couldn't deny he was more than a little confused, but "Hokage" and "speak to us" caught his attention right away.

"So we'll be able to see sensei again...?"

His heart leapt in his chest and he started moving faster. Could their entire team be together again?

"Don't set yourself up for disappointment."

The words were spoken calmly, in the same insistent monotone Hoshino used for everything. There was no reason to snap at each other. Not now. That much was painfully clear. Part of it was the difficulty she was now having blocking things out. She was hyper aware of the kikaichuu she'd planted on her teammates, all emitting stress signals in a fashion that literally made her skin crawl. Compulsively glancing over the other three members of the team helped. So did running in something like a formation. Little things like that.

"No," Kiba admitted, voice a little grim. "I don't think that's it. I just don't think the Hokage wanted us to wait and wonder and worry for forever. I'm sure it'll probably be just him."

Hinaji had voiced what she so desperately wanted though and it was hard not to focus on it. She had already taken point (it simply made sense with Akako) and Hinaji and Hoshino flanked them on either side. They were moving as fast as they could go, everything around them simply a blur as her heart hammered in her chest.

And all Kiba could think was that it wasn't fast enough.

Hinaji tried not to let his spirits fall, but even he realised how unlikely seeing their sensei would be. Having Hoshino and Kiba confirm it didn't make the knowledge any easier, though.

"...It's a start though, right?" Even if the chance was small, it was still there. And seeing Hogake wasn't exactly a bad thing, either.

So...he wouldn't completely give up hope.

"It's what we have," came the easy response to Hinaji, followed quickly by a, "Can't you two move any faster, Kiba?" The pounding brought them closer, and the formation streamlined them against traffic, but the universal sentiment was that they were already too late because they needed this with an absolute desperation or they were going to fall apart where they stood.

Where they ran.

Whatever.

The momentum would be good for breaking down the Hokage's door, at any rate, and for flustering everyone other than the Fifth into letting them through.

"Yes."

The answers was short and Kiba, instead of talking more, simply increased her speed. People quickly moved out of the way and though it seemed far too long to the three, they reached the Hokage Tower in what was probably record time. They didn't really even stop when they got inside, though they were forced to slow since Akako barely fit in the narrow hallways as is.

Before long the three four of them were at the door to the Hokage's office, all of them breathing just a little fast and hearts thumping in their chest. Kiba glanced at the two behind her, and then swallowed before knocking on the door.

Everything they had hoped for, and dreaded, and feared... they were going to get answers.

Hopefully.
