First of all: thank you,
buddha_loves_me,
vegetas and
autumnhaired for the Christmas cheers. I admit to freaking out slightly before I realised that that particular kind of virtual gift is free of charge.
Lately, I've been spending some of my leisure time watching TV shows of questionable artistic quality, and I have this to say: why the constant censorship, American television? The shows that suffer from this kind of treatment are hardly family-oriented ones airing on Prime Time. What is the aim? To prevent adults from learning more bad words or fainting from the sheer shock of being exposed to profanities and nudity? These are shows where - I'll daresay - a lot of the entertainment value lies in the very content being censored: the nasty underworld behaviour of the criminals on Cops; chef Ramsay's blatant need of anger management therapy in Hell's Kitchen, and female genitalia and breasts in documentaries about childbirth and plastic surgery. Why wouldn't the people that choose to watch these programs be able to handle the very concepts said programs are based on?
The worst thing is that this is slowly finding its way into Swedish television as well. So far it's not done seriously; only occasionally in some humour-oriented shows to jokingly imitate the American style, but well... in a few years, I wouldn't be surprised if we've reached the same level of hypersensitivity here, too.
