Sewing, Chocolate, Friends - Who Could Ask For More?

Had great fun last night with Margaret and the boys, Kat, Marianna and my daughter Tiffany.  They all came over to our house and we had pizza, watched fun movies, and sewed away.  We went through the loaner garb for this weekend.  I have quite a bit of children's and women's stuff, some good accessories, and feast gear; but I'm sadly lacking in men's stuff.  I used to have several more tunics, but they have somehow disappeared.  Either way I should be OK for the Pas this weekend.

I got the hem done on my Roman chiton but (like a dummy) put the buttons on the top before I did the trim.  So tonight I'll get that straightened out and get the trim on the seafoam green chiton and that will be done.  It's so pretty!  Then I need to finish the rose-colored stola and I'll be all set to wear my Roman on Saturday.  I'm still not sure what I'll wear Friday night.  I would rather wear one of my Italian dresses because we're having a ball and I want to look nice, but I'm playing with the musicians and won't be dancing so I guess it doesn't matter as much.  Bambi had suggested wearing my salwar khamiz since there was certainly a large Middle Eastern influence in Spain.  Maybe I'll do that - it would definitely be comfortable and cool!

I am very pleased that my garb collection is finally growing.  I have another really pretty pale green Italian Renn that needs some revision.  Then I have all my new fabric to make into at least 3 more Italians, lots of pretty sleeves, some hip scarves, and a Turkish coat.  At Tuesday's meeting, Tessa showed us how to felt and I made a hat to go with my Turkish.  What fun!  I think this weekend may be my last event for the summer.  I'll stay home in the a/c and get all my stuff sewn for the fall.  Marianna has also taught me to make jewelry so I'm going to do more of that.

Yesterday I actually did research and wrote 4 sonnets for the Pas poetry contest.  It's based on a Castilian poet's works in the 1400's and I was very excited to find information about Spanish literature.  It's not that great but it's my first attempt at truly writing something documentable and I'll be interested to get Middle Aston's advice about it.  I also put my other works in a binder and I'm going to make a period-looking cover for it.

It's so funny, but I always find myself thinking I'm not doing as much as everyone else in the SCA.  But I'm certainly branching out now!  I think that I'll do best that way.  I guess most people find one thing that they concentrate on primarily and are known for - but I think I'd get bored.  So I'll just keep doing lots of things, even if I stay mediocre in each.
