i'd like to thank the academy...
in relation to my last post, never_evil and telophase are getting extra special stocking stuffers this year. that is, if i can get to their stockings... because they deserve. >P
in other news, i have decided that i will be doing those mini reviews i was talking about some posts ago on manga that pokeymegchan gave me. the great hope is that i'd be able to apply the review method to other series. so i'm making it pretty versitile. i'm only going to do 1st volumes, as these are mini reviews. so that means spoilers for that volume, fyi.
the reviews will be point based, with a perfect score being 100 points. there will be five catagories that will be main "grade", plus a bonus points section (which i will let you guys add to, because it'll be fun stuff, i promise). each of the five main sections will be worth 10 points, with that total doubled at the end. then the bonus points will be added on top of that. (so, theoretically, a manga could get over 100, but it would have to be amazing). however, the five main catagories are going to be the same for every review, so i'm compiling a list of catagories that i think i can pick five from for every manga. here's the list:
art stylebecause, i mean, this can make or break a manga. they way something looks is our first cue as to wether or not we like it. "judging a book by it's cover" anyone?
plotdoes anything happen in this book? if the answer is no, then it doesn't sound like a book to me...
dialouge + translationwhat people say and how they say it (and if the translators got it right) is also important. i mean, "luke, i was married to your mother" just doesn't have the same punch, now does it?
male leadi would say antagonist, but because of books like saiyuki and tv series like HEROES, its starting to seem like the roles of antagonist and protagonist are just disappearing in today's media culture.
female leadalso, i'm going to be doing alot of shojo right off the bat, so female lead it kinda important.
supporting castsometimes, the background kids steal the show. konzen anyone?
evil villian + insane dudethings may be more gray now, but that doesn't mean we're getting rid of our little villians, now are we?
animal sidekickare they cute? fuzzy? hold the power to save the world? turn into a jeep? without these cute little pets, our "antagonists" wouldn't kick as much butt. and its a japanese staple.
romanceyes becuase of the shojo, but also because sometimes its fun to find the romance where it isn't supposed to be... ^.^
umm...i haven't decided on this last one. but when i do, that'll make an even 10, which is what i was aiming for... ~.^so i'll pick the five most applicible and grade from those... does that make sense?
also, a list of bonus point catagories (i'll just keep adding to this list). i think i'll just use any and all that apply, with a max of five points per bonus item. (ex. if there were three old men, three points. if there were eight, five points)

and of course, i want input! i mean, you guys will be reading these, so you might as well tell me what you want now before i really get started.
anyways, there are a bunch of things going on in my life right now, but its the holidays, so i really don't want to over do it. Happy belated Last Night of Hanukah!
