So each of the adjustments that you are talking about are done one one copy, i.e., layer of the picture?

I can't really tell if each "effect" is being done on a separate copy of the pic (which are then all layered together) or if each effect is done on the same copy of the pic. But that is probably less a question for you and more a question for the people who develop Photoshop and whatnot.

Well you start off with your base and then you're adding the adjustments layers all on top of each other. In the end you can merge them all together and sharpen them...
Does this make sense?

Yes, exactly. I was wondering if you made so many copies of the pic because each adjustment was made on a separate copy which were then all combined for the final effect.
