how to get from
this to
this.
1. Start with opening your base in Photoshop (obviously).
2. With high quality pictures you can usually go directly to Step 3, but if you are using screencaps I would recommend you to duplicate (Shortcut: Strg+J) the base as often as you like to get the image brighter. Set the duplicated Layer(s) to Screen.
I found that it often works better if you make the image a little brighter than you'd normally like it. You will get the chance to balance it out in Step 3.
Since my picture is already light enough for me I didn't need to duplicate my base.
3. The next step is to make the image have more contrast (and also to lower the brightness a bit if you have made it very light with the screenlayers). For this I created a Curves Layer and make them look similar to this:
The first point I dragged up and a bit to the right so it would make the image even lighter. It propably is to bright right now, but the second point should fix that.
I dragged it down and to the left. This increases the contrast in the image and also makes it darker again. If you think that it's still to bright go back to your screen layers and delete some or lower their opacity of them. You can also drag the first point a bit lower.
After this Step my picture looks like this:
4. The colours look a bit cold and dull now so I created a Vibrance Layer.
Vibrancy: +47
Saturation: +13
You can see that her lips are more red and that there are also more yellows in the image.
5. Now I wanted the colours to be less green and more blue/violett so I made a Colour Balance Layer with the following settings:
Midtones: -19, -45, +23
6. Next we will use yet another Colour Balance Layer to make her face lighter and also to intesify the violett. I used the folloing settings:
Midtones: +10, -40, -12
Highlights: -17, 0, -10
7. We're almost done now. As a final touch I added a black and white gradient to the image. I set it to be a Radial gradient with the black on the outside and the white on the inside. Then I set it to Soft Light and lowered the opacity down to 50%.
The Final Result:
If you have any questions just ask :) I hope you enjoyed my very first tutorial and find it somehow helpful/useful and I'd love to see your results ♥
