That Life Thing...
Many years ago, back when the earth was cooling and land was rising from the oceans, there was this little game thingy called an "Atari" (later called an Atari 2600 when there were more than one type of console available, I think). My grandparents bought one for me to play with while I visited, and I would play "Tank" with my grandfather. I would regularly beat him silly at the game, and he would complain, "this game stinks." In my typical no-filter mode, I said, "The game doesn't stink, you just stink at the game." The house erupted in laughter (my grandfather included), and I looked up from the game to see what was so funny.
A few years later, while railing against having to do chores (I mean, it was summer vacation at the grandparents!!), I blurted out the eponymous "Life Sucks!" while sorting laundry, for the third time...and from the other room I hear:
"Life doesn't suck, you just suck at life!"
I have not yet used that one with my own kids, but I still find that I use it with myself from time to time...
I love and miss you Grandad.
