what's the point?

I passed the 50K mark on Friday and last night I finished my story at just under 60K. At this point, what's left is to fill in missing scenes and a couple of minor subplots I wanted to stick in, which will probably amount to another 10K ( Read more... )

Well, 60k *is* a hard novel length to get published. See if you can add another 10k in edits. :)

It's always worth a try!

I think I probably can add 10K. There's a lot I left out.

I hear you - part of your brain says 'done!' but the book says 'uh - not quite, hon!' That sucks...

You know what though? YOU are the only reader that matters. Is the story the one YOU want to tell, even if only to yourself? I know that I really kind of like the idea of getting my book 100% done, edits, rewrites, and all, so that I know that I have fully realized my idea, and then it can bounce around my brain, all unfettered, finished and free, for the rest of my life. If not another soul ever reads it, so what?

I just have SO much writing floating around that I've done over the years and there's just a part of me that always wonders what's the point of all this...

All the more reason to try something different, and actually finish one! ;)

I'd say just put it aside for a month. Celebrate your victory, give yourself some time off, and come back to it later. You'll read it over again and have the space you need to think more critically and so some editing. Also, you'll probably find stuff in there you forgot you'd written, or that makes you laugh! Just shelve it for a bit. =D

Congratulations! I am having a hard time even finishing mine-let alone thinking about going back and editing.

The free paperback proof keeps me going. The thought of something I wrote in my hands just makes me.... happy. But I don't want to submit for my copy until things are as I want them. Novel completed, edits done etc.

Good luck!! I hit 50k yesterday and I have pretty much the same issues. Sub plots and scenes to flesh out, I still have an ending to write actually. (Out of 5 possibles.. eek.)
