Nano Exercise

Hello, today I am sitting with Leesa, the main character in the book I will be writing starting November first for Nanowrimo. Hello, Leesa.

Leesa: Hello, it’s an honor to be here in your head.

Okay, let’s get started. So, why don’t you tell the people reading this about yourself.

Leesa: Well, I’m an 18 year old girl from the planet Aurona. I’m from a race of people called Techians. The difference between us and other Auronians is that we use technology.

Why don’t other Auronians use technology?

Leesa: Simply put, they believe its evil. On the other hand, we Techians believe that technology isn’t evil, just the people that use it.

Ah, I see. So what do you do?

Leesa: Well I live in the Techian city of Rinn, where I’m currently a senior in high school. Besides that I go hunting for monsters with my Repliwep.

Repliwep?

Leesa: This thing on my arm here. With just a press of a button or two it can replicate any weapon programmed into it. *Leesa hits a couple of buttons and a sword appears over her hand, a metal guard surrounds her hand protecting it from the blade* See?

That’s quite impressive.

Leesa: It is, isn’t it. *Leesa presses a couple more buttons and the sword disappears* Now if I could only figure out how to program more weapons into it.

You mean you don’t know how to?

Leesa: No. I found this when I was out hunting one day. I figured out how to use the laser in it and the sword but I don’t know how to program it myself. It’s an ancient piece of technology. At least, one thousand years old.

That’s pretty old.

Leesa: Sure is. Only a couple of these babies ever existed. And I got one.

Lucky, to be sure.

Leesa: Why did you just sound sarcastic? You think I can’t handle this thing?

No, no, I didn’t mean that.

Leesa: Uh, huh. *She hits a few buttons and a gun barrel appears, a button also appears in the palm of her hand* You want to test your theory?

NO! Just calm down.

Leesa: *with a smile* That’s what I thought. *she proceded to put away the laser* Now, is there anything else you’d like to ask me.

Well, I suppose, I could ask you about friends and family.

Leesa: I’m glad you asked. I live with my mother and father. Only child, you know.

Shocking.

Leesa: Did you say something?

N..no. Please continue.

Leesa: Okay. I have a couple of friends in school. Tena and Lena. They’re twin sisters. Weird ones too. But they’re cool. Really helpful when hunting to. They have access to a radar that can pick up the life signs of monsters.

No kidding. What about a boyfriend?

Leesa: Why? You interested?

Uh… heh heh.

Leesa: Look, I know I’m attractive. But, it seems as if boys are scared of me because I’m so tough.

*mumbles* Modest too.

Leesa: What was that?

Nothing, nothing at all.

Leesa: That’s what I thought. Anyway, I know a couple guys that are interested in me, but they just aren’t brave enough to say anything. It’s a shame really. They ARE kinda cute.

Hmmm. So what are your goals in life.

Leesa: That’s a good question. I think the thing I want to do most is to show the Auronians that there is nothing to fear about technology. As long as its used properly, technology can do great things.

For example?

Leesa: Well, heal people. Without our technology, many of the diseases that we don’t give a second thought to now would become potentially deadly. Heck, with technology, and a little bit of luck, we can even bring people back to life before they’re to far gone to be saved.

That sounds like a very good thing. Why do you think the Auronians distrust technology so?

Leesa: It’s probably because of the war that took place nearly one thousand years ago, when this repliwep I wear was invented. According to the history books, it was a terrible war. Over one million people were killed during it. One side, the side that us Techians tend to believe caused the fear of technology in most Auroians, use an incredibly powerful, incredibly deadly machine to kill over one hundred thousand people at one time. It wasn’t too long after that, that a rebellion among those forces under that sides command took place ending the war. After that, all who still wanted to use technology were branded as Techians and sent to an island far from the main continent to live.

It sounds like quite a story.

Leesa: Yeah, we Techians have worked our way back to the continent now and live in peace with the Auronians. That’s where Rinn is. It’s the only Techian city on the main continent.

How do you stay in contact with the other Techians?

Leesa: Mail mainly. I heard of some inventor in Rinn trying to invent a device that’ll let us communicate verbally over the ocean without wires. I’m really psyched to see how that turns out.

The possibilities with such a device would be endless.

Leesa: Sure would. I’d be able to find out if there’s any guys over on the island who are brave enough to try and date me.

You’re a bit boy crazy, aren’t you?

Leesa: Not really. I just want a boyfriend. Is that so wrong?

No. It’s just that you keep coming back to it, that’s all.

Leesa: Oh, well. *Leesa giggles a little* I guess it has been on my mind recently.

Care to elaborate?

Leesa: Nosy.

This is an interview.

Leesa: Oh, yeah. Well, since that’s the case I suppose I can talk a little about it. You see, there’s this boy Elan, who I really like. And my friends think he likes me too but they aren’t sure. So I keep finding myself thinking about him now.

Ahh. I understand. Why don’t you ask him out?

Leesa: I couldn’t. I wouldn’t know how. I think I’d just turn red and run away if I tried. And if I did that I just might die.

Sounds like you might be a little scared to ask.

Leesa: SCARED! Why would I be scared? I mean it’s not like he’s a monster that’s going to try to kill me. What do I have to be scared of?

Then ask him out.

Leesa: Maybe, I will. Maybe I’ll go right now.

But the interview isn’t finished.

Leesa: Too bad, I’m leaving.

Well alright, I guess the world will have to go on not knowing about Leesa Karm

Leesa: I hate you.

Okay. So, besides you intrest in Elan. What other interests do you have?

Leesa: Well, I love sports. Comic books are a big plus too. Anything with a lot of action in it.

Sounds like you want to be a heroine of some sort. I mean between the monster hunting and love of action related activities.

Leesa: Yeah, I guess that’s pretty accurate. It be kinda cool to save the world ya know. Maybe they could erect a statue in my honor in Rinn. Or maybe even in the capital. That would be awesome.

I see you’re already planning your parade.

Leesa: Everyone should have a plan for a parade in their honor ready. I mean come on, you never know when you’re going to accomplish something incredible. I, personally, want to be ready for when that happens.

Be prepared, huh?

Leesa: Exactly. I’ve found that when you’re prepared, even the worst thing that can happen doesn’t seem all that bad.

Sounds like a good attitude to have. Did your parents influence that trait in you?

Leesa: My parents have influenced me a lot. Most of my ideals and thoughts on life in general come from them. My adventurous side on the other hand, is a bit of a mystery.

Oh?

Leesa: Yeah, both of them hate it when I go hunting. Especially my dad, he doesn’t think that it’s a good idea for a young girl like me to be hunting such large monsters.

He’s probably just worried about you.

Leesa: Yeah, probably. Sometimes I wish he’d just chill though. I mean, I haven’t been hurt yet.

True, but as long as there’s the possibility he’s going to worry.

Leesa: Yeah. I guess that’s what makes him a good parent. My mom, too. Though she likes to tease me. A lot.

Imagine that.

Leesa: You know, I’m getting sick of that smug attitude of yours. *Leesa raises her right arm up* Maybe I should take care of it with my repliwep.

Uhh… I’m sorry.

Leesa: Damn right, you’re sorry. So is there anything else you’d like to ask me?

Let me think.

----------

At that moment a monsterous figure burst into the room. The interviewer instantly ran off leaving Leesa to fend for herself. Leesa smirked as the giant pig looking thing stared her down.
“You want a piece of me? Alright,” Leesa said as she activated the sword on her repliwep. She then used it to motion the monster towards her. “Bring it.”
As if on cue the monster charged at her. Leesa grunted slightly as she leapt over the monster slashing at its neck as it passed under her. The monster let out a whelp of pain as it skidded to a halt and turned around to see a just land Leesa also turn to face it again.
“What? Done already? Come on you can do better.”
The monster huffed and then charged her again. Leesa just smiled as she quickly switched her repliwep to it’s laser gun. At the very last second, she blasted the monster right in the face vaporizing it.
“That’ll teach you to mess with me,” Leesa stated as she deactivated her repliwep.
The interviewer came back out. “Well, thank you for joining us today. On tomorrows show, we’ll look into why there has been so many monster attacks lately.”
Leesa jumped in fromt of him and said, “Nothing to worry about,” she pointed at herself as she continued, “as long as I’m here. Good night everyone.”

1698 words in 58 minutes. And a headache from arguing with myself a couple times. lol
