Inauguration
This is my first blog entry. Blog newbie here, please be kind.
I've been surprised at how popular blogging has become. Many people are very concerned about privacy, privacy of their thoughts and writings (I know I am!). Others write their thoughts out for the whole world to see. The computer scientist in me has always been concerned about the management of information, who owns it, who controls it, where it might go, who has access to it. These issues have been intertwined with my coming out experiences from the very beginning. It's refreshing to see some people be so open about their thoughts and feelings. I sometimes wish that information could not be owned. I sometimes wonder if that would make life better -- or, at least, cyberlife better.
I'm glad LiveJournal is a (mostly) volunteer-driven organization. The volunteers here provide a service that greatly enriches our cyberculture. Thanks!
