ADVENTURES

Hello World!
I came back from my holidays, and had Christmas, and now I am at work, and as you can see, working REALLY HARD.

Happy Birthday to Ms SB, and may she have all of the things that she deserves this year, and some of the things she wants, and piles and piles of happiness.

A Late Happy Birthday to Ms the_mendicant and similar joyous wishes.

I do a happy dance for both you lovely ladies.

So Mup and I went on an adventure, gallantly abetted by puddingcat, whose home acts as a launchpad to Manchester Airport. We survived 9 hours on a 'plane. I made a tactical error, and had bought Diana Gabaldon's Firely in Amber, thinking it was cheesy fantasy, which it SORT OF is, but it's a bit heavy on the historical romance side, with a few too many adjectives for my liking. I managed to counteract this with reassuringly FILTHY Harry Potter fic, which pleased me greatly; and American Gods, which is a fine antidote to many things.

We arrived at Vancouver airport, which has the nicest international arrivals area of any airport ever, with beautiful art, and running water, and light, and views of the mountains. We then managed to find our way (on our own) into the centre of Vancouver, across the Burrard Straight on the SeaBus, and Ann-Maire picked us up. We did not die of jet-lag, or of being lost in a strange town. Vancouver is friendly, and has wide streets, and polite people.

My brother's house is built in the bottom of a ravine, and has a stream which runs underneath it. This is good for preventing witches, but not so good when the electricity goes out, and the sump pump stops pumping. Luckily, my bro is the man to have on your side come the zombie apocalypse, as he knew where to get a generator and how to hook one up at 4 in the morning. Those shambling hordes wouldn't have been able to cope with us!

We did lots of cool things, like walk in the ravine in the rain with the dog (who is the fluffiest, cutest, politest dog ever), and see Beluga and Sea Otters at the Aquarium, and go up Grouse Mountain to go ice skating and eat dinner, and go snowshoeing at Seymour Mountain; and best of all, just hang out with my brother and Ann-Marie. Six days is not enough. Vancouver is such an ace city, and North Van, where my bro lives feels like a small town with big city amenities. I could definitely live there. As long as there was no stream under MY house.

Pictures to come, and also, the write up of the quiet but lovely family Christmas afterwards.

I missed you all, and hope you are recovering from the festivities, or enjoyed them, or a combination of both.
