Speedpaints Again

Mar 28, 2009 12:46

Doing more speedpaints again to practice backgrounds (fatal weakness), and color. All are referenced from stock photos so I could study composition as well. Sometimes I didn't stick too closely to the original reference, sometimes I did. Painted in Photoshop, time approximately around 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours.

This is the speedpaint where Photoshop froze on me so many times that I lost count. Each time I just gritted my teeth, took a screenshot and attempted to finish it as fast as I could.

Photoshop froze just as I was about to finish. Again, took a screenshot and then finished it.

Attempt at mountains and snow. Blah.

Here, I downloaded brushes from Goro Fujita whose works I really admire. Played around with his brushes a bit. Unfortunately this looks like color vomit, ugh.

After the previous failure, did a color study. Blah.

Snow and winter study. To be honest, I have never seen snow because I've only been in warm sunny climates. I do love snowscapes though, hence why I set my webcomic in a snowy winter setting... Then I realized I had no clue how to portray snow realistically. (and it really shows unfortunately) Sooooo, I really need to do lots and lots of snowscape studies...

This took roughly around 30 minutes, the quickest one of the bunch:

Another snow and winter study. Photoshop crashed on me 3 times on this, I was too stubborn to quit. -_-

Learned a lot, but definately got a loooooooooong way to go.

speedpaint, study
