Govermint Takeover of Healthcare! ONOES!!!!

At least 2 (at last count) disabled friends will eventually have an easier time finding and keeping doctors, now that the payouts for Medicaid will be raised to match Medicare, which far more providers accept.

A friend with no income and MS will now be able to get onto Medicaid herself, instead of being able to send me an email saying that she's dying of a managable disease, simply because she lost her health insurance when she was laid off.

Another friend with a pretty serious "Pre-Existing Condition" and impressive talent can now seriously discuss starting a business with his wife, without having to either assume that the lion's share of the business's proceeds would be consumed by insurance to cover him, or to assume that he will continue working in a job that he's less than satisfied with simply to keep some form of coverage instead of following his own muse, or working for his wife.

Every Single Young & Underskilled Security Guard I know, past present & future, will be able to tell their employers to keep their half-assed insurance & go buy their own in the Public Exchanges, and probably get better insurance in the process.

The single moms (and dads) I know will be able to get Federal Subsidies to help cover insurance for themselves as long as they make less than $58,000 per year. (Not sure about you, but I don't know many 1-kid/1-mom families that make MORE than that... Nevermind 1-kid/2-parent families I know.) Plus, they can take their kids in when they get sick since they'll probably have access to CHIP.

Heck, the single people I know, if they make more than $14,400/year but less than $43300/year? They'll get those same subsidies. Going from "I've-Had-This-Cold-For-6-Weeks-&-Am-Having-Breathing-Problems-But-Can't-Afford-A-Doctor" to "Time-To-See-A-Doc". (Matter of fact, I may be doing the math wrong, and could myself actually qualify for a partial subsidy. Need to find some good numbers on that...) Plus, the "Can't-Afford-Insurance" Coworker who constantly called in sick, leaving the rest of us screwed on a weekly basis would be able to get her IBS taken care of, and magically become a reliable coworker!

Small businesses will be able to join those aforementioned exchanges to buy insurance for their "49 employees or less". Which means they'll be able to attract better people, and in the long run won't have to worry about losing good people because they literally can't live without the better benefits provided by "the other guys".

Nevermind the tax credits available for small businesses that decide to offer health insurance. And tax cuts lead to job creation, right?

But lets talk about me. I'll be able to move on, start my own business, move to nowhere & try farming solar panels & sheep, work for a small company or nonprofit and still be able to get reasonably-priced health insurance. Instead of having to toss those impulses in the bin because i'm too much of a scaredy cat to do without Western Medicine. Oh, & i'll be able to buy federal long term care insurance. Which, considering I'm not planning on having kids to grudgingly take care of me in my dotage, i'll definitely want to have lined up.
