Plague at work, Justin's birthday, and ducks

The plague is spreading around my work. Ellie got sick and it wasn't pretty--she could hardly swallow, she was exhausted, and she felt like death. Then, it happened to me. I missed an entire week of work and had to see a doctor to get a note so I could go back. There was one day that I don't remember happening, I was so sick! Then, it spread to Benny. His developed into strep throat. Now, Jamee's got it and he's been calling out. I'm hoping that poor Jamee will be the last victim, but who can say? This thing is pervasive! David might already have it, but I think he's been trying to blame it on allergies.

Also, Justin turned 26 on the 21st! Woo hoo! We have decided (as I think I mentioned in my last post) that we would like to do touristy type stuff on our birthdays, since it's all stuff that we never really think to do normally. So, we decided to Ride the Ducks. This is a phenomenon that I'd not seen equaled in Florida. They have these WWII amphibious crafts that they call "ducks" and do this 90 minute tour through Seattle and onto Lake Union and all I knew of it was that I'd be waiting to cross the street or catch a bus and I'd see one of those damn duck boats and it would be playing some stupid song and everyone would be dancing like idiots. It looked humiliating for the drivers and painful for the passengers. So, we figured that it would be an Experience.

It actually did start that way. I got Justin a little plastic duck caller thingie called a quacker and he got a birthday crown. But then, the tour started and it was actually really good! Ridiculous songs happened, there was a small amount of dancing, but our driver was wry and funny and his jokes didn't sound stale even though I'm sure they were. There was a lot of really interesting historical and cultural information about the city and it was engagingly presented. Also, the view of the city from Lake Union is something that Justin and I had never seen before. The only way I could have enjoyed it more is if it hadn't been so damn cold. I think Justin and I were born at the wrong time of year for that kind of stuff. We discussed possibly shifting our birthdays over some months to July, where it would be warmer.

After we did that, we kind of wandered around downtown for a while. Gameworks has had a HUGE change in their setup and the games they have available. They must have contracted with someone new or something. We popped into the Market and I got Justin the saddest wind-up toy EVER: This fat, sad, brown cat who walks with this pathetic little lumbering gait. It's hilarious! I also got him a legit wind up toy of a large metal bird riding a bicycle and with a propeller on its head.

I've been on a Broadway kick again lately. I usually just default to fawning over Lea Salonga when that happens, but lately I've been investigating Judy Kuhn. My heart seems to go to Broadway singers who have also performed in major Disney films...

So yeah... That's life as of this moment. Nothing too exciting, but altogether pleasant.

birthday, justin
