Well first the setting then the characters.
"The Shore" was a 3 BR house on Back River. It was on a fair sized lot. There was about 15' sandy beach, and the rest of the waterfront was a rock retainer wall. The men built a dock maybe 30' out in the river. Th kicthen had a hand pump for water like the Bevery Hillbillies LOL and you had to keep a jug of water beside it just to prime it sometimes. Remember this when I describe the characters rofl
Characters:
My Dad & mom and I, shared a BR with Uncle Ed & Auntie ( Eddie comes into the picture later, but he'll be there). Everyone was called Aunt & Uncle so bear with me. Anut Angie & Uncle Jim Lahey ( Aunties bro.) and they're kids Little Jim and dam can't remember her name , and Uncle Blow had 1 BR. AuntJennie & Uncle Sol (no relation to anyone) and their 2 kids Georgie 2 yrs younger that me and a BOY BOY , and Caroline who was maybe 16 and didn't want to play with kids. I was probably 8-9ish.
So Uncle Blow: real name Eugene . He, like my Dad were paratroopers in WWII . Uncle Blow's chute took him into a tree and did permanent damage to 1 leg. He was a very heavyset man. Another large person with an even larger heart. He got 100% disability from the VA and worked as a janitor at the Chevy plant, so he paid equal share cause he had the most.
More characters to follow:
So, they split the rent, and all was fun. My mom worked and Aunt Angie worked , the other women no. So on Friday (summertime), after everyone got home from work we packed up and went to the shore. The women had talked during the week and each had a shopping list and brought groceries and the receipts. The kitchen with the hand pump was small, but the dining was BIG and had a solid mahagony table that sat 12. (Remember that for a future story hehehe). They drank a lot of draft beer. Someone brought the keg and the ice abd they had their own tap. The most I remember seeing was on a 4th of July weekend 4 days, 14 1/2 kegs of National Bo, and 1/4 keg os sasparilla for the kids. Beer drinkers for sure. I come by it honestly.
Uncle Sol worked for Otis Elevator in the projects.
My Dad & Uncle Jim are plumbers (and a hand pump in the kitchen LOL), actually with did fix that situation after the 1st year.
SO POKER next story
