Stenciled, cut lampshade idea

I got a little lamp from the dump last Saturday. It has a white shade, the cardboard type. I would like to make a design on it and cut it so the light comes through it better. It's a nice little side lamp.

I have a book on stencils. Perhaps I could do that. I have a good knife, too. I will try and film my idea and upload it.
