Relaxing at Lake Hartwell

Mar 23, 2012 21:50

I'm sitting beside one of the many fingers of Lake Hartwell. It's a huge lake. Enormous! The shoreline is about fifty or sixty feet from the bank and the trees. It's amazing it is so red here.

I am so pleased to be here. It's just such a nice place to be for the moment. I'm not too far from Athens anymore, but wanted to come down to the waters edge and have a look at it. I guess the water's about six inches lower than where it was when it left all the pollen stains along the shoreline, a few days ago. So is the water level is still dropping then, or is that normal. That's an incredible amount of water that's missing, as it's such a huge body of water.

I remember coming here with Cyrus when I was 15, and his boat and going water skiing. You can just boat for miles without running into anything. There are some little islands, though. I guess sandbars that had the posts for low water on them, are now showing. i wonder if the level will ever come back up again.

I suppose I should head on, but I just like leaning back in my lawn chair here and feeling the sun on my face. It's not as sharp as it is in Canada, cos we have the spring hole in the ozone layer overhead.
