I took Daniel home after his crossfit training. He was so hot the car steamed up. He ate his other half of his sub. I dropped him off at home, then went over to the Woodcarvers meeting.
I was there early, so could visit with the carvers first.
I was so impressed with Michael Cote's carving. He's done incredible work! he did it for income and it worked for him! I learned a lot watching him show how he put the picture of the face on the side of the block of wood, made a hole for the eyes and the nose and the mouth so he could draw it right on so it would be correct.
He did a carving of Obama which is amazing! He also painted them with his paint recipe book.
I paid my $20 for my annual membership. I'm going to go to the Friday afternoon meetings every week in Ottawa, hitching a ride with Willem. The first meeting is tomorrow at 12:30!
AFter the meeting I realized I'd carved on soapstone, making a small elephant and a beaver. I'd carved on on basswood making an elephant. I'd carved on that door in the tipi, but haven't finished it yet. I also have carved those lovely bark houses which are hanging on Mom's tree!
So I am a carver!
1. soapstone elephant
2. soapstone beaver
3. basswood elephant
4. bark house
5. bark house
6. bark house
7. bark house
I am pleased to see that I ahve done these. I wonder where they all are, now. Hmmm. I am not sure where the soapstones are. I have four pieces of soapstone that I can carve. I brought them home from Germany. I began doing this when Virginia was carving her stones for the wall in her kitchen. She is so amazing.
There was a table with a competition on it. There was also show and tell. I'll take my soapstonse and my little elephant to that. Perhaps I should finish them up properly, first. I think they are finished. No, I should leave them like that as my first projects! Can't show the bark houses, though.
I got home at 11 pm after stopping to buy some bedding for Abe.
