Three youth were kayaking in the Bete Island rapids without their life jackets on. At first they were kayaking up the rapids, but then they went around to the top and came down through them.
I called the police, who came with divers and large rafts to rescue them if needed. I was just worried about them falling onto the rocks and drwoning. It's pretty common here. I was pleased to see all the equipment that they came with, eventhough I said they were not in trouble in the water. I hope it shook a little sense into them, just having the six men show up and talk to them. They are quite familiar with rescueing people from the river. Every year I hear about a few who drown in there.
