6 am
My neighbour just beeped as he drove by. He’s never done that before, gone out of this way to acknowledge my existence, although he does respond when spoken to. Perhaps it’s because it’s breaking light, first light, today.
My hide was a bit damp on Pole Island when I arrived here. I set down my binoculars-in-bag, laptop and moved the boots and the gallon jar of water so I could rearrange the hide to sit down.
6:05 The neighbour, E, just left. There aren’t many cars at this hour. When I do hear one, they can be heard for 37 seconds before they arrive and after they pass.
I love when it’s silent so I can hear many birds. These I’ve heard around me somewhere but only a few have I seen:
Alder flycatcher
Chickadee
Redwinged blackbid
Crows
Wild turkeys
A pair of blackbirds
Several ducks
A pair of fast flying ducks
A flicker
Juncos
Starling
Chipping sparrow
Pileated woodpecker pair
Blue jays
A pair of loud mallards
A robin
A wood peewee
Bluebirds
Mourning doves (they didn’t show up until about 7:30)
