So it's now the end of the third week of college life, and I miss writing fanfiction. But since I'm still in school and on break, I thought I'd do something to pass the time. Maybe I'll get ideas or something. So I stole this meme from
bonomanic who I haven't heard from in a long time.. XDD
1. How about a brief introduction of yourself?
Hi, I'm Jenina. I've been in fandom for seven years (since grade school) and my main fandom used to be Super Junior, but Beast has sucked me in for the last month. I also read some Shinee, and if feeling a little nostalgic, some of my old anime fandoms.
2. And what got you into fanfiction to begin with?
Anime, especially the reruns on Animax and AXN. That was the time where we didn't get out of the house much, so it was okay. We'd go to a computer shop once a week, and just play a game. This time though, I decided to google one of my favorite animes (Gensoumaden Saiyuki), and ended up following a link to a fanfiction archive. I also loved reading Harry Potter even back then, and I wanted to think of new stuff for the stories if JK Rowling ever ran out of ideas. LOL.
3. What kind of fanfiction do you like to write?
Hm.. I think most of my stuff has angst in them, or me trying to get into the head of the character. I've also written high school AUs with comedy and romance (request for a former friend, seriously). But I'd really like to write fantasy, or bandfic, just to see how it would pan out in my head..
4. Do you tend to write the same pairings/characters? Or are you a fandom whore?
I write stories out of requests for my friends, so I've written different pairings, but with OCs. If I had my way though, I'd probably write my biases more often. I always like writing Heechul for some reason, because he has such a complicated personality. I like trying to get into his head or something like that XD. I also like writing Kyuhyun and Kangin, because well, they are my biases. :)
5. What is your most popular fanfic and why do you think people like it so?
Uh.. *goes off to check* probably
Impasse, because of the vampire theme..? I guess people also like it because it's not like Twilight, sort of. The backgrounds of the vampires (especially Leeteuk) were also fun to write, and there was KangTeuk! (Even if it was broken)
6. Forget other people... what is the fanfic you've written that you're most proud of?
It's not posted here, sadly, and it was a request for an old *sigh* friend who got me into SuJu in the first place. It had OCs and I tried very hard not to make them Mary Sues. I also did my best to keep SJ in character. :D It was called Much Ado About Something, and I spent the entire junior year (and part of the summer) writing that fic which had more than 65 chapters (3 seasons). She had a lot of people read it during senior year though, and I'm happy they all really liked it. I'm proud that it was the first story I ever finished. Sadly, I will never see any of those nine notebooks again. :( (And yeah, there was a time I thought that all that writing and THAT happens? Seriously, what a nice friendship..) *Bitter.* Sorry about that.
7. Do you find writing easy? Hard? What are the most difficult aspects of writing?
It depends, really. When my friends request me to write something, I usually ask them for ideas and after they've given me a few, I start writing and the story sort of gains a life of its own. I find writing romantic scenes hard though ( I end up very red in the face) and thinking of a good idea to draw the readers in.
8. Write a few sentences or so of your favorite pairing or character.
KyuHae - I like how they're so opposite of each other yet they complement the other in some way. I also like how Kyuhyun fanboys over Donghae and how Donghae cares for Kyuhyun. I just find them so.. well, words can't really describe it, but they're unique. I'll just give them that. :D
9. Are there any fanfiction trends/cliches that you're sick of?
When they overemphasize a part of their personality, I guess. Or when they don't give character growth.
10. Are you guilty of any of these? Or have you committed other crimes?
I hope not, but I'm guilty of making Donghae clueless for
Automatic, mainly 'cause he's a humanoid. Does that count?
11. What was the first fandom you wrote for? Do you continue to like/participate in it?
The Saiyuki series. Yes I still like it a lot, and i still read but it's on hiatus because of Minekura Kazuya's recent operation. I hope she gets better, and I wish her nothing but good health. :D
12. Name your OTPs or most frequently written pairings/characters and explain what it is about them that you love to write.
My OTPs for SUJU are KyuHae and KangTeuk. The first because I love their relationship with one another and the second because writing about the nagging parents always makes me laugh. :D As for individuals, definitely Heechul, again, see above. It's fun writing his personality. Shinee, I used to be all for 2Min, but now TofuHo practically yanked me away. As for Beast.. KiWoon and JunSeob. :D I seem to have either a thing for maknae lines or a thing for oppsites. :D
13. What would you call your writing "style"?
Hmm.. I'm not really sure, but I tend to put backstories because I don't like empty characters.. (I am making no sense now). I like experimenting though..
14. Do you read other people's fanfics? If so, what do you find yourself reading the most?
Yes, more than I should actually. I often read things with my OTP, but every once in a while, I'll read things that my friends recommend me when I have time. :)
15. Name one thing you'd LOVE to write but haven't yet.
A chaptered KiWoon, because the world needs more of them. :)
16. Do you have trouble taking criticism? Or worse yet, do you have a really bloated ego?
I hope I don't one.. :) And I don't have trouble taking criticism, as long as its constructive, 'cause how else will we improve? But if people only criticize to find fault, then I'm crossing the line right there.
17. When you write is there anything that helps? Music? Quiet room?
I always wait until I'm alone in the room, 'cause when there are others there I tend to be distracted.
18. What inspires you?
Real life, random pictures from the internet, prompts, and music. :)
19. Lastly, how would you sum up your fanfiction experiences and yourself as a writer?
Well,... I write a bit better than I did at eleven. It's a fun experience and I'm happy to have made friends online or in real life because of fanfiction. I hope to grow more as a writer and just enjoy what I'm doing.
Conclusion: Well, find time to write in between breaks for starters.
