She damn near dropped her jaw when the greeting-roar from the ship tacking out from the harbour reached her, but caught herself, roared back, cast her sails' colours a laughing wave that she let fade as the other ship passed by and the first of the harbour tugs reached them.
"That was Ravi," her third remarked conversationally.
"I noticed," she replied. "I'll get us settled before I go ask, though."
"Aye, sir."
She left a proper bones crew aboard at the repair dock, sent the rest out for a night of carousing, and found herself a ferry that would take her to the Six's dock.
Giovanni was in town, she was reasonably certain, because she hadn't heard any rumours that he was out with a fleet at the moment. So she stomped her heels up the boards of the dock, didn't even change her coat for something less flashy, made no effort at all to conceal her presence, so that by the time Jasmine opened the side door, tea mug in her free hand, all her cousin said was "He's in the library with a view."
Niamh paused, partly past the smaller woman, then grinned down at Jasmine, gave her a quick hug. "'ci."
"De rien," Jasmine replied, disappeared back into the depths of the complex. Niamh went for the stairs, the heels of her boots thudding across the mosiac floor and then up the inlaid wood of the treads.
She didn't kick the door open, because she'd probably break it and Jared'd take it out of her hide, but she did fling it open dramatically as she called "Are we hosting a war nobody told me about?"
Both her eldest brother's eyebrows lifted as he let a parchment chart roll itself shut. "Why do you ask?"
"Gideon, Thérese, Eva, Ravi and David are all in territorial waters. Am I late to the party or what? And isn't Gideon forbidden access to the city again?"
"Yeah, something about setting fire to a Bodrakey protectorate."
She blinked. "Are we talking a ship or an island?"
"It's Gideon--I didn't ask. They'll forget about it in five or ten years anyway and it's not like he's actually hard up for ports. Where'd you run into him?"
"Out in the mergence--he was well out, but he's hardly ever this close to home anyway, let alone when someone's in a snit. And then I ran into the rest of 'em on my way in--are we hosting a war?"
"If so nobody's handed me a chart either, baby sister. It might just be everyone needed to be around."
"Uh-huh. Mind if I steal a room and bother Jared in the morning?"
He grinned at her. "Only if I don't get to him first."
"Deal." She stretched, cracked her knuckles. "Can I talk you into cooking?"
"Offer me bribes."
