A tiny pause. "I meant the humans."
"Sir? With all due respect? Have you ever tried going into the Trickwood?"
"No?"
"To sketch for you, then. This ship? Was half-built of one tree, and the captain literally talked it into falling with promises of adventure. We were carrying all the lumber off that tree, and the losses are literally irreplaceable. A navigator with a broken leg and four gunners with head injuries from where one of the ribs broke are small coins next to that."

"No, you don't. But that's where everyone starts, out here. Welcome to the salt and the storm, sir."
