(no subject)
Yesterday, walking around campus, I passed a kid headed into the library to (I think) study for an exam. I overheard the end of a sentence:
"...but I'm going to try my ass off."
I am very entertained, but also - it sounds totally wrong to me, and I can't put my finger on why. It doesn't seem like "try" is the kind of verb that you can put in the "X my ass off" construction...is it? Does it sound okay to you guys?
