During volunteering today, I had to push an old Pakistani man across the hospital (from 8S to Urology in the Surgeon Pavillion). He had a kind face but very poor eyesight.
Because I am very interested in the history of India, I chatted with him easily about Northern India. I've been studying the ancient civilizations near what is now Pakistan and I was surprised to hear that he was from the Punjab area of Pakistan. His clouded eyes seemed to dance as he talked about Lahore and his homeland and I could feel his excitement even through his accent.
When we reached out destination, I parked and locked the wheelchair as usual. As I turned to leave, he grasped my hand and said "You are an angel. May God grant you a wonderful husband".
Among many other things today. This ancient, out-dated and yet still true blessing made me smile. What a lovely afternoon.
