I've always been a slow-walker and one of the advantages is that it gives you time to observe what happens around you as you walk. For instance, I was walking behind a group of guys and girls when I noticed that every one of them is sporting some sort of northface. Whether its the backpacks or jackets or vests, I felt like a Northface advertisement just passed me by.
This campus has an incredible obsession with Northface. At UW Northface seems to be more of a status symbol than Prada or Gucci. Maybe because there's so many Chinese folk on campus who can get Prada knockoffs any time of the year. I am never someone who pays a lot of attention to fashion but if three hundred people each day on campus are dressed in the exact same skinny jeans, ugg boots and northface jacket, you get the idea pretty quickly.
I have been back to the land of cloud and rain for over a week now. I appreciate having a carpet in my room just like I appreciate being able to see green everywhere (even the best parks in Chengdu has a gentle layer of dust over the tree leaves). The morning after I got back, I woke up to a beautiful sunrise. Its a pity that I haven't seen the sun since. I suppose the dreariness has its advantages, the weather impacts you so much that no one would really notice your gloom anyway.
